Mission: The mission of Community Arts & History Support (CAHS) is to fill the void which exists in many communities as a result of non-existent or limited access to the arts, culture, and an appreciation for historical heritage. The communities most in need are the ones without access and this void is particularly harmful to youth and their development.
Programs: The major operating programs of Community Arts & History Support (CAHS) are: The Community Museums: At maximum operation, over 45,000 sq. feet and 20,000 linear feet. Free public access to exhibits, concerts, and other programs. Visitors include schools, special needs groups, and senior citizens.. Community Arts & Language School: Art classes for all ages from pre-school to adult. In-school art instruction is $1 per student per hour, out of school instruction is $7 per student per hour. Scholarships are available for low income students Language instruction includes Spanish, French, Japanese, and Hindi. These educational programs have major positive impact on youth as it gives an avenue to develop skills and talent, build confidence, provide encouragement, and connect with community. Children's Arts & Music Festival: Celebrated annually and gives about 500 youth from 5 to 18 years old the opportunity to showcase their arts and talents. Vietnamese Folk Arts Institute: Designed to bridge the communication gap, via the arts, between Americanized Vietnamese youth and their more traditional family members. CAHS Family Institute: Provides education, support, and services for individuals, families and groups in need. Casa de la Comunidad: Provides education, support, and services for mono-lingual Spanish speaking individuals, families and groups in need in support of their youth. The Sunnyhills Historical Project: Documentation of the history and contributions of half a century ago of the African American community of Sunnyhills, Milpitas, California, recipient of the 2003 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation. Renaissance Student Project: Public recognition on the local and county level of outstanding youth who have demonstrated an all around track record of excellence in academic effort, physical endeavor, the creative arts, peer leadership, healthy lifestyle, and community service. Passport to Culture Television & Publications: Television programs and interviews dealing with a range of subjects including artists interviews, book readings, senior dance performances, youth art exhibits, concerts, educational programs, and diplomatic interviews. Museo Comunitario in Mexico: Benefiting the local town and surrounding areas as a tool to keep youth in school beyond the elementary school level.
