Mission: A group of activists in the Seattle area banded together in August 1999 to create an organization that undermined the root causes of sexual violence. By January 2000, these activists established CARA/Communities Against Rape and Abuse, an organization that prioritizes the wisdom and energy of survivors of sexual and domestic violence and their communities at the grassroots. CARA mobilizes communities to foster support, safety, and self-determination using the power of collective action, critical dialogue, and community organizing.
