I have been attending CSF productions for over 40 years, seeing the growth and maturity of the ensemble over time. What started as an "amateur" festival, with local talent, has become a truly professional enterprise. Though the plays remain pretty much the same (the addition of non-Shakespeare works began several years ago), the polish of the presentations and the level of acting has increased greatly. I particularly like the setting of Shakespeare's plays in times and locales far from their original intent, showing just how universal Shakespeare can be.
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival continues to amaze, delight and impress me. The quality of the productions and of the acting company make the experience of attending a performance under the stars in a Colorado summer simply wonderful!
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, a professional theatre company in residence on the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been performing for more than 50 years. Since 2007, the company has expanded its repertory to embrace classic plays from other cultures, including great American plays. Primarily a summer festival (with the exception of one holiday play), CSF plays "under the stars" and on the University Theater's indoor Main Stage. Picnicking before the plays, a lovely Shakespeare Garden and green shows make this a complete and delightful summer evening experience. Excellent acting and high production values make this festival a "must do" of Coloradans and visitors to the Denver/Boulder area.
