Mission: Scholarships, inc. Is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and invest in area students to succeed in higher education.
Programs: The organization awards scholarships to students who have established financial need and have demonstrated academic achievement based on gpa, standardized test scores, course rigor, community involvement, leadership and extra curricular activities. 204 students were awarded scholarships totalling $664,000 in 2016-17. Through our programming, the organization helps ready students for scholarship success. The object of our activities is to provide coaching on preparing for scholarships so we have the best qualified applicants, as well as showing them the components of a quality education.
new scholars is a college readiness program focused on enhancing reading, writing and character development among underserved and would-be first generation college students. Beginning in 6th grade and continuing through 12th grade, we help these students on their path to higher education and prepare them for acceptance into college. In addition, students can earn up to a $5,000 scholarship after successful completion of the program as a high school graduate. The program began in 2014 and currently has three cohorts (6th, 7th & 8th grades) in operation with a total of 70 students. When the program becomes fully operational in 2020 we will have seven concurrent cohorts from 6th through 12th grade totaling almost 200 students.
