Mission: The coalition's mission is to help transition homeless and at risk individuals and families to self-sufficiency through housing programs and supportive services.
Programs: The transitional housing programs are designed to assist program participants move into permanent and independent living. The programs also provide social services, substance abuse counseling, and employment services at each location. The transitional housing programs served 572 clients during 2016.
the virginia williams family resource center (frc) is the central intake office for all families requesting emergency housing and assistance in the district of columbia. In 2016, 5,659 families were served through various supportive services to include referrals to emergency shelter and affordable permanent housing assistance, employment counseling, life skills training, housing assistance (including rent arrears, security deposits, utility payments, and moving expenses, etc. ); substance abuse education, mental health services, and public assistance. Other services to families include providing furniture, diapers, food vouchers, and tokens for transportation.
the work-bed program provides employment services and a 24-hour temporary shelter for homeless men. Services include a full range of employment services, case management, substance abuse counseling, and housing assistance. This program provided services to 215 clients during 2016.
as part of its mission, the coalition's other programs include half-way back program that provides supervision and stabilization to probationers and parolees in violation status through stable residence, employment or vocation training and substance abuse stabilization. They also provide single room occupancy program that provides individuals and families in dc with places to live while these residents remain sober and continue their recovery from substance abuse. The ultimate goal of the program is to place these residents into permanent housing. Coalition continues to work with the unemployed homeless individuals and heads-of households through its employment and training services program to provide participants with the job readiness skill they need for gainful employment. The coalition operates rehabilitation/transitional centers that offer services intended to provide transitional housing to unemployed homeless men addicted to alchol and/or drugs, experiencing chronic poverty or hindered by family challenges. Sevices include substance abuse treatment, employment, and housing placement assitance. The employment services center provides employment assistance to homeless single residents and heads of households. Services include job-readiness seminars and workshops (resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and communication skills), life skills seminars (time management and budgeting), job search and placement assistance, training referrals, computer-assisted learning and basic education testing.
