Causes: Arts & Culture, Symphony Orchestras
Mission: Citymusic cleveland is a professional chamber orchestra, which performs free concerts throughout northeast ohio, accompanied by art shows of local artists. Our mission is to develop audiences and build communities through the arts by presenting the finest quality performances of classical repertoire, eliminating the twin barriers of high ticket prices and unfamiliar venues, and working with neighborhood leaders to enrich the cultural offerings of their communities. In so doing, citymusic cleveland builds audiences for both the musical and visual arts organizations in northeast ohio. It is our belief that this grass roots approach connects diverse people and a spectrum of community groups, as they take ownership and pride in enriching their community.
Programs: The program presented during the 2012-2013 season, consisted of a five concert series over the year. The concerts were held in elyria, fairmount, rocky river, cleveland, and willoughby. Attendance at all concerts is estimated to be 20,000 people.
citymusic cleveland puts on educational programs that are designed to teach elementary school children how to read and listen to music as well as play an instrument. Programs are taught by artist-teachers from the orchestra in the slavic village neighborhood of cleveland and in elyria. Approximately 75 students participated in the 30 week program.
