Mission: Apollo's fire engages widespread audiences in its joyous pursuit of artistic excellence, performing 17th- and 18th-century music on the period instruments for which it was written while promoting a fresh and lively approach to historically informed performance. Taking its name from the classical god of music and sun, apollo's fire (af) was founded by award-winning harpsichordist/conductor jeannette sorrell, and incorporated in march 1992. Af is dedicated to the performance of 17th and 18th century music on the period instruments for which it was written. The ensemble unites a select pool of early-music specialists from throughout north america, and has been praised internationally for stylistic performances, cd recording, tours, and broadcasts.
Programs: Apollo's fire (af) brings world-class performances to your doorstep in a continuous "tour" of northeast ohio neighborhoods; various performances that are a part of the subscription series include:1. Resplendent purcell- october 6-9 (henry purcell music for royal events at westminster abbey- with voca; soloists, strings, lutes, recorders, trumpets, percussion, organs and the acclaimed af singers)2. Love in venice- november 17-20 (vivaldi, salomone rossi & monteverdi in a multicultural fiesta) 3. Handel's messiah - december 9-12 & 16 (now an acclaimed cd, this interpretation has inspired audiences across the country with national radio broadcasts4. Virtuoso bach- february 16-20 (an instrumental extravaganza) 5. Sugarloaf mountain6. Sacred bach (bach cantatas with guest conductor joe gascho) 7. Beethoven & schubert rediscovered- april 27-30 (beethoven's egmont overture, 5th symphony, & violin concerto with noah bendix-balgley, the young american concertmaster of the berlin philharmonic) touring nationally in 2016-17 season.
