Programs: Early intervention services: integrated services for women, children and families included these service components: coordinated service/drop in center, including resource coordination and information and referral services, mental health services, childcare and babysitting, family case work/peer advocacy, outreach, medical case management, and transportation. The concepts of empowerment and family centered care are essential components of these services. Services are accessible, sensitive and respectful of the unique needs and cultural diversity of those living with and affected by hiv. Client service utilization statistics follow: coordinated services center services 19,722 visits; family case work-12,329 units of service; information & referral 8,476 units of service; outreach services 426 units of service; childcare/babysitting services 2,064 hours of service; medical case management - 444 units of service; mental health counseling - 953 counseling sessions; and transportation vouchers- 330 vouchers.
enhanced peer navigation to improve hiv care for women (empower women) project is part of a four year grant from the california hiv/aids research program in collaboration with the ucsd center for aids research hiv disparities core. This study aims to develop a culturally tailored and gender- and syndemic-responsive intervention with 100 out-of-care (newly diagnosed, never in care, or women who were linked but have fallen out of care) women living with hiv/aids in san diego county. This project will demonstrate a six month peer navigator model aimed at improving linkage and retention among out-of-care women living with hiv/aids who face syndemic-related barriers (e. G. , substance use, violence , and mental health). The goals of the empower women project are to build skills to cope with syndemic-related affective distress; facilitate linkages with both hiv treatment and relevant ancillary service providers (e. G. , domestic violence, mental health, substance use) and teach women interpersonal skills to activate social support networks (e. G. , service providers, peers, friends, family) when faced with barriers.
expanded hiv testing in healthcare settings (ehth) provides high volume confidential hiv screening in existing healthcare clinical and other settings, linkage to care, partner services, and prevention services for persons testing positive for hiv. These services provide individuals the opportunity to be informed of their hiv status, to receive information and education about hiv disease and its transmission, to receive counseling focused on changing behaviors that may place individuals at risk, to receive referrals to appropriate hiv prevention services, and to receive referrals and assistance via linkages to appropriate hiv care and treatment services. Number of hiv tests from 7/1/2016- 6/30/2017- 837. Two people tested positive for hiv during this time period, was linked to care and offered partner services.
