The agency is unique in that it focuses on 3 key areas for creating impact: strengthen families and communities through direct programs and services, help other organizations with innovative tools and training, and transform systems and communities with best practices to improve outcomes. More than 34,000 children and families are helped each year throughout southern california with services that include school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care and foster-adoption and more. Programs: Child abuse prevention programs: children's bureau is an innovative leader in the field of child abuseprevention. Children's bureau focuses our prevention efforts on fourinterlocking goals known to boost the success of families andcommunities}}}nurturing parenting, school readiness, good health andeconomic stability. More than 10,000 children and parents annuallybenefit from services that include school readiness, family resourcecenters, home visiting programs and parenting classes. Children'sbureau is one of the largest investors in child abuse prevention in thecountry and is developing a national model to transform an entireat-risk community in los angeles through its magnolia community initiative.
mental health services:mental health services are provided to children who have been abusedand to families in need of professional help to get their lives back ontrack. Each year, children's bureau provides more than 62,500 hours ofmental health therapy and counseling to children and parents in need. One of our specialties is helping foster and adoptive children withmental disorders reduce their depression, anxiety, anger and/orwithdrawal that frequently accompany abuse. Children's bureau believesthis critical therapy helps to break the cycle of abuse that is oftenongoing as these particular children become adults.
foster care/adoptions:healing children and families from the tragedy of abuse has been afocus of children's bureau since its founding. Children's bureau doesthis through foster care and adoption programs. Each year, children'sbureau finalizes over 100 adoptions and places more than 400 childrenwith loving foster care families. For those foster and adoptivefamilies who need further help, children's bureau provide therapy,mentoring and support groups through our adoption promotion and supportservices program. Children's bureau is one of the largest private,nonprofit adoption agencies in california and one of the few that isnationally accredited by the child welfare league of america.
