Mission: Child care network's mission is to promote the success of children, families and our community through quality child care education, advocacy and family support.
Programs: Great start - the gsq se rc helps child care providers by providing training, resources, and on-site consultation for early childhood educators to improve the quality of care provided to young children. During the fiscal year, over 906 library resources were provided to child care providers and parents; 2,319 child care professionals participated in training (including 376 unlicensed providers), and 217 research-based early learning and development classes were provided. The building on behalf of children conferences served 147 professionals in genesee county and 283 professionals in washtenaw county with early childhood development training.
family support program (fsp) - the family support program provides tuition assistance (scholarships) to families to pay for quality child care. Fsp allows parents to work and further their education while assisting child care entrepreneurs and their staff in achieving, maintaining, and improving early learning experiences for young children. Program staff work with parents to provide strength-based guidance and counseling. Fsp scholarships are available in genesee, hillsdale, jackson, lenawee, monroe, and washtenaw counties. During the fiscal year, the family support program leveraged public and private funds to present $607,161 in early learning scholarships to 397 children from 248 families. The tuition was provided to 78 early learning businesses.
race to the top (rtt) is a part of the resource center work that reaches out specifically to unlicensed child care providers, licensed and registered home child care providers, and families who receive a subsidy to help them pay for child care. The rtt work with child care providers is focused on helping them to improve the quality of care they provide to children and families. The rtt work with families is focused on helping to connect them with high quality child care. During the fiscal year, the rtt staff worked with a total of 74 unlicensed child care providers, and helped 28 of them achieved level 2, and 36 of them achieved level 3 in a quality rating system. In addition, rtt staff supported 2 new licensed and registered home providers begin to participate in the tiered -quality rating system to improve the quality of care they provide. Finally, through the rtt staff's outreach to subsidy-eligible families, they were able to provide 106 referral to high quality child care settings.
the child and adult care food program (cacfp) helps child care programs provide nutritious meals to the children in their care. Ccn was a sponsor during the fiscal year, helping 21 child care programs provide nutritious meals to high needs children. This program wrapped up during the start of the 2017 fiscal year.
