Lymphoma Foundation of America is a wonderful resource that helps people and their families dealing with cancer. LFA helped me. They support scientific research and give travel grants to cancer patients who need help getting to and from their place for treatment. They give great support. If you have an issue and it involves lymphoma, you should call the LFA or go on their website www.lymphomahelp.org

I’ve been volunteering with SAWC for the past two years, and you can feel the passion of the people who work here. They consistently go above and beyond to bring resources, knowledge, and help to our clients, and they help make the environment feel like a community. Staff are deeply understanding of clients’ individual lived experiences and act with empathy, altruism, and understanding through every interaction and advocacy initiative. This is truly a non profit that makes a difference.

I have volunteered with CAN since August of 2021 and I am amazed at all CAN does for the Washtenaw County community. CAN's mission is to provide education, stabilization, and community-building services to under-resourced families in Washtenaw County through its various programs such as summer camp, Youth Works, after-school programs, food distributions, and seven community centers. CAN's staff and volunteers are entirely dedicated to providing assistance for children and families in need of support, and CAN's educational curriculum and stabilization resources go above and beyond. I highly recommend CAN as a top-rated nonprofit in Michigan!

Toward the Vision of a World Without Alzheimer's<br><br>My grandfather was the most brilliant man I ever knew. Sure, everyone says that about their grandfather, and everyone believes it. But I think my Papa had a pretty strong case. He built houses. He built cars. He was the Head of Design Staff at GM. He was a Naval Aviator. He held multiple college degrees. If there was ever a problem, he was the guy you wanted to fix it. If he didn&rsquo;t have the solution, he could damn sure build one.<br><br>Which made it all the more painful to see Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease take it all away. It started innocuously enough &ndash; forgetting a detail here, retelling a story there. It was easy to write off as old age, even for someone as sharp as he was. But then the big things began to disappear. Names. Places. Faces. Relationships. Nothing can prepare you for the experience of a loved one forgetting who you are &ndash; or forgetting who they are.<br><br>Back then, my family didn&rsquo;t know much about Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease. We didn&rsquo;t know about the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Association. But we were lucky to have a supportive family who could help my grandmother provide care. Many don&rsquo;t have that luxury. That&rsquo;s why the care, support, research, and education programs of the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Association are so important. With their help, no family has to face this terrible disease alone. And that&rsquo;s why we work so hard to support their efforts.<br><br>Because Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Because every 68 seconds someone else is diagnosed with Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease. Because there is currently no cure or prevention for Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease. Because, shockingly, only 45% of people with Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease or their caregivers report being told their diagnosis.<br><br>After my Grandfather passed, my family began to participate in Alzheimer&rsquo;s Association fundraisers. We have joined in their fundraiser walks for 10 years, raising and donating nearly $25,000 in two states as a family since our first in 2005. For two years, we organized our own charity golf tournament, raising an additional $5,000. This money helps fund groundbreaking research for prevention, treatments, and cures, care and support programs for people with Alzheimer&rsquo;s and their caregivers, and educational resources that can make the diagnosis and caregiving processes less frightening for those who go through them.<br><br>In 2013, I was able to take the next step in supporting the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Association, by helping found the Young Professional Alzheimer&rsquo;s Advocates of Lansing (YPAAL), a group of young people dedicated to serving our community by raising awareness and providing support for Alzheimer's Association programs, services, events and families affected by this disease. In the almost three years that YPAAL has existed, we have raised over $15,000 for our chapter of the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Association and performed more than 150 hours of volunteer service to the community. And we&rsquo;re just getting started.<br><br>Some wonder why young people would commit their time, energy, and passion so fully to this cause. But if you take the time to speak to our members, you will understand. We know how devastating this disease is. We know how important these resources are. I am a retired nurse faculty and have gone to FSIL in Leogane Haiti which is supported by HNF. These faculty are doing the most outstanding job of educating the health care providers for Haiti. FSIL is becoming a self sustaining but needs our help to keep them going for a number of years. <br> <br>

I volunteered here a couple of years ago, and the work that these organization does is AMAZING! They take in injured or abandoned wild birds and work to rehabilitate them to re-release them to the outdoors. The amount of birds that they are able to fit in the small space and help is incredible, and every year they seem to somehow stretch to take in more and more! <br>Although my time restraints currently stop me from volunteering, they remain one of my favorite organizations, and I do whatever I can to continue to support this excellent cause.

As a parent of a graduate of the tremendous music program offered at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, there is no better way to support the staff of fine educators guided by David Leach and Nancy Waring than contributions to this non-profit. We've even donated the cash proceeds from a car from an agency that allowed us to designate PBA as the recipient. The PBA has no adminstrative overhead and the proceeds go directly to enhancing the musical necessities of the band students including new instruments, equipment and subsidizing performance trips to far away places both domestic and international. Not once, but TWICE, the Ann Arbor Pioneer High School Music Program was recognized as THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY (#1) in the judgement of the Grammy Foundation Awards within the past few years. An amazing accomplishment thanks to the dedicated teachers and students at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.

I have been at the bottom of Packard's sliding scale for regular treatment for depression (my prescriptions), annual gyn exams, and miscellaneous medical needs that one takes to the GP. Unless tests were ordered I paid 20 bucks per visit. My GP, Dr. Holly Ross, sets a higher standard for the quality of care she provides than any doctor I have ever met. <br> <br>She makes sure to ask lots of questions, really listen to what you have to say, answers your questions respectfully and fully, and reaches out to specialists/increases her knowledge base when there might be a better way to tackle a problem I'm facing. If you get in touch with *her* she will get back to you immediately through some sort of magical power. If you bring knowledge, questions, and a desire to work with her to get well she doesn't take that for granted. She seems to appreciate the patient's cooperation in the treatment. Great bedside manner. Knowledgeable about wide variety of medical problems I faced -- not afraid to admit it when she did need more specialized info. Always happy to help me off the clock in some very unusual circumstances. They have given me a real service here. A good doctor is hard to find. <br> <br>Also, the staff is always friendly and relatable. It's a pleasure to see them in the office. Sorry if I'm redundant at all. Thanks for reading.

I am proud to be associated with this 100% volunteer organization that has been giving profits back to the community for 80 years. Many small Washtenaw County nonprofits rely on the regular support they receive from this organization. Scores of local residents have been quickly assisted with their emergency financial needs by this very efficient and well run organization.

I am a children's librarian in Ann Arbor, Michigan who has invited Wild Swan Theater to entertain and teach the children of our community for many years. Every performance is high quality and filled with joy! Traditional tales and classic literature are adapted with care and respect and details to tickle the funny bone of young audience members. I was so impressed with this children's ensemble that I became a board member to help support their work. There is so much thought put into each play that it is always a pleasant surprise and a delightful experience to watch the reactions of the children. Wild Swan is simply a class act!!

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museam is a wonderful museam for a lot of reasons. The main reason I like it is that it helps kids with special needs. It is great for occupational therapy and sensory issues that children enjoy learning. The children have so much fun, they forget the benefit they are getting from the museam.

The Scrap Box is Ann Arbor's most creative GREEN Space... and one of it's oldest examples of "recycle, repurpose, reuse' living. For 28 years, TSB has collected fascinating, unique and unpredictable items that ALL SHOULD BE IN THE LOCAL LANDFILL. These materials are available very cheap, for use by artists, crafts people, and other creative spirits for UPCYCLING into new and unique items. Many inspiring examples cover the walls and provide ideas for everyone who enters. Every visit to The Box is an experience in incredible "stuff" and wonderful examples of GREEN ARTs creativity!The Scrap Box also offers workshops, classes, birthday party space, and classroom visits about recycling and creative GREEN living. Jazzistry--jazz + history + artistry.... is the live performance edu-tainment program that was created by Vincent York about 14 years ago. It changes students and adults view of American history and culture and their connection to our multicultural heritage, and teaches the historical significance of jazz, a uniquely American gift to the world. Beginning in Africa 400 years ago and coming all the way up to HipHop, the multimedia program demonstrates how musical traditions from all over the world collided in the New World, wove together in New Orleans, and produced the foundation of ALL American music. From African work songs to ragtime, spirituals to the Blues, marching bands to Dixieland jazz, Bebop to HIpHop... Jazzistry demonstrates the multicultural integration that is present in ALL American culture. The show literally swings through the decades, showcasing how "the history is in the music, and the music IS the history"... making all music more meaningful, once you understand what you are hearing. Jazzistry includes deep curriculum connections for content area teachers to reinforce and extend integrated instruction into social studies, language arts, math, science content. Jazzistry helps everyone understand how issues of race, gender, class and political power have formed American cultural traditions... and how that creativity, self expression and artistry are indistinguishable and universal. York is an exceptional role model of life-long research, dedicated focus on one's 'craft,' and the passion of a virtuoso. He inspires many students to pursue instrumental music and renews their interest in history as a way to understand their own contemporary interests (i.e. their music). This is a program that 'works' and enlightens audiences of all ages... but the focus on schools (especially students and teachers) means non-stop fund-raising and grant-writing by Jazzistry's small staff and large core of volunteers. Winner of the 2008 MI Governor's Award for Arts Education program, Jazzistry continues to reach more schools each year in spite of the challenging nonprofit climate. This is an outstandingly powerful message and medium for helping all Americans understand our shared multicultural heritage and "get along better." It should be a national curriculum and be in EVERY school in the US! Michigan is blessed to have the inspiring educational project of Jazzistry and Mr. York's dedication to spreading the harmonious message! Keep on swinging, Jazzistry!!

This is a fabulous organization, with an all-volunteer staff and virtually no overhead costs. Virtually all of my donation went directly into the hands of deserving low-income students, and my contribution was matched by the partner Universities that the Joyce Ivy Foundation works with. <br> <br>I highly recommend you support this great organization, and its worthy mission in the Midwest.

Having recently moved to the Ann Arbor area, I was looking for an opportunity to contribute to the community. In researching the needs within the local area and the impact local non-profits had on improving the lives of individuals, I was impressed with Michigan Ability Partners mission and their successful track record of having a lasting positive impact on their clients. Invited to join the Board in late 2010, I'm now happy to be serving this agency and strongly recommend that anyone who believes in the possibility of the individual take a look at how they can support the people at Michigan Ability Partners achieve their mission.

I have had a relationship with Bethania for over 10 years that started while studying abroad in southern India in 1999. I saw firsthand the care and concern that Bethania Kids provides on a local level. I was impressed with their efficiency, integrity, and the fact that all of their work in India is done via local paid and volunteer staff. My experience with Bethania in India forever changed my life and the organization is still near and dear to my heart. As a youth pastor, I&rsquo;ve been privileged to help raise money for Bethania for the past 7 years through various youth sponsored fundraisers. We worked with several Christian aid organizations while in India, however the reason I was so endeared by Bethania is because they truly put their money into the spiritual, physical, and emotional care of Indian children. Every dollar they receive goes directly to the care of the children which is a true gift from God and I believe, proves Bethania Kids true heart for sharing the great love of Jesus Christ with the world. I am a researcher at the University of Michigan studying hepatitis C virus in the laboratory. We are trying to identify new targets for possible HCV treatment. The Greenview Hepatitis C Fund has provided some seed funding for a project of mine that is "high-risk, high-reward." Such projects are typically at a stage that is too early to be competitive for federal funding through the National Institutes of Health, and therefore benefit greatly from private foundations such as the Greenview Hepatitis C Fund. I met with the founders of this organization, who were both very interested and clearly very committed to advancing research, education, and treatment for HCV.

This organization does not expend resources for any Program Services, but just pays personal office expenses for the President. When is the IRS going to see that there is no broad public support and classify them as a private foundation?

I have worked for two non profits in Michigan. Both of them had residential programs for youth who were abused and neglected. The Amma Center of Michigan took the wish list of these children and bought Christmas presents so that in the morning they had presents from Santa. Recently they gave a donation so the youth could have summer experiences they would not normally receive. Just this week I was able to send a six grader to camp with her school mates. Without those funds she would not have been able to go. This will give her a normal experience that most kids would never have doubted they could go. She held the form for many days from staff because she was so sure that being in a residential treatment program would mean she couldn't go. Thanks to the Amma Center for all the memories they have given the youth in our residential treatment program.
