Mission: The mission of the chicago urban league is to work for economic, educational and social progress for african americans and promote strong, sustainable communities through progressive advocacy, effective collaboration and innovative programming. (cont. On page 46) in the 50 years since the civil rights act was enacted, african americans still struggle with the same core issues: employment, education, housing, income stability. We must change the way the african-american community is positioned and understood, both internally and externally. Over the past 100 years, the chicago urban league has consistently demonstrated that we are a movement that incites change. As we enter our second century, we will be the convener that connects all the players and serves as a catalyst for permanent change.
Programs: Economic development-redefining today's civil rights imperatives by promoting and creating economic empowerment opportunities for the african americans in chicago
human capital-to promote the growth and commitment from individuals that will lead to economic self-sufficiency and improved quality of life, and grants and awards
education-to advocate broadening the base of educated, skilled and engaged african american youth and serving as the voice and thought leader for economic development issues in the african american community.
