I feel like the CEO and secretary, I cannot say their names but pick and choose who they want to help and I feel like if you’re white, you will not get the help that you need. I feel like they are racist. I know someone that had her name on the list for rental help they never called her back, she left several messages over 30 messages for the secretary and did not receive any callbacks or any help. I don’t know, but I feel like like a place like that should be defunded. They shouldn’t be able to pick and choose. They want to give help too. It should be first come first serve, and who needs the most not the color of your skin or whether they like you or not.

Leadership is toxic and not in service to the community. Leadership serves self. Leadership matters. Please get some young, fresh , intelligent and woke people in that failing organization. President running it into the ground. We need to do better.

The first eight months of our experience at 5c’s was great. During this time the director that had been at the center 20 years retired and in April they hired Marianne; who is inept, deceitful, and overwhelmed. <br><br>When our daughter moved up to the next class, Pre-k with Lori, she was hurt almost daily. There was a severe injury on her hip that a teacher cleaned and bandaged yet we were never told about. When I wrote Marianne, the director, angry about this she told me she was out for her birthday the next day and would get back to me next week. My daughter, who has a small speech delay was also bullied and called stupid and is now in therapy due to the experience. Her numerous injuries in this class were mainly at the hands of the other children. We never once saw Lori, the preschool teacher STAND UP. She sits in a chair and "directs" her assistants to run the class. From preschool to Pre-k, the artwork our daughter brought home also decreased by about 75%, they let the children run wild in this class.<br><br>My husband and I went from volunteering with the school and bringing appreciation gifts to our first class (preschool) team, to pulling our child out, filing a formal complaint with the state and seeking therapy after three weeks in Pre-K. Our complaint with WA State is the second one 5c's has gotten since Marianne started. <br><br>Please avoid this center at all costs, for what they charge…you should feel safe leaving your child with them.<br><br><br><br>

As a member / new Chairperson with the Young Professionals Chapter, I am proud to be part of an organization so dedicated to the advancement of black and brown communities.<br><br>The National Urban League not only provides resources (in many cases free) for advancement, from job & skills training to an entrepreneurship institute, but also a support system to help guide people from point A to point B. Our Young Professionals Chapter provides great opportunities for young professionals to network together, give back to their community, and become involved in local / regional initiatives for change.

A Different Path, Inc. is an organization that provides a much needed service to young women of color charting their way to college and beyond. Sheila Bruce, the eloquent and driven founder of the organization was a former teacher and remembers the challenges of being young and attending a competitive college that her family was having a hard time paying for. <br>"It was a struggle but I made it through and graduated with honors." I was attracted to support this organization because of Ms. Bruce's zeal and commitment to serve others especially young women of color. Ms. Bruce makes certain students who become ADP Scholars of her program are fully supported and do not contemplate dropping out particularly because they may need to plug a financial gap to buy new clothes, commute to school, go back home to see a sick family member or return home for Winter, Holiday or Spring break. Scholarships and Grants are simply not enough to meet the costs of all academic and non academic costs. Through ADP's signature annual event DENIMS and DIAMONDS, Sheila Bruce works exceedingly hard to raise necessary funds to cover many of the hidden costs that prop up during the academic year. The results of her effort? -- many students, now graduates with high GPAs who surrendered their worry of finances to an angel called Sheila Bruce and an organization that not only served their immediate need but became family for forever support and community.

Zonta Club of Lansing organized in 1922 in Lansing, MI. 94 years in the Greater Lansing area helping advance the status of women and girls through service and advocacy. A group of people who with service projects and fundraising events work to empower women worldwide by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels. With generosity and collective projects in 57 countries Zonta Club of Lansing and Zonta International provide scholarships and awards to women around the globe thereby transforming the world and women's place in it. The Lansing Club and her sister clubs work to end domestic violence, stop human trafficking, create understanding, goodwill and peace in the world. Together they are united internationally, fostering high ethical standards, universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. Every member of Zonta is a leader and serves Zonta proudly.

With a very small budget, the Urban League of Portland manages to be at virtually every table in the greater Portland area that has anything to do with people of color. And despite the fact that it is in demand everywhere, and the fact that they have a small budget, they manage to get very important things done - both legislatively as well as substantively. The staff is grossly underpaid but they stick around anyway. Their new CEO is charismatic, smart and humble. They are, more than any other organization in Oregon representing communities, the one indispensable organization.

This organization helps mature workers 55 and over find employment for twenty hours per week.I have worked from their office on Fulton Street in Hempstead,NY,which helped me find employment.

I was employed for a short time at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and had the pleasure of working for the President and Chief Executive Officer on a annual fundraising event they've held for years. She was a wonderful mentor and I respected her immensely. She's helped the organization establish an excellent reputation for helping individuals empower themselves and achieve goals and grow both personally and professionally. I would recommend the agency to anyone in need of finding a direction in their lives and learning how to accomplish goals. I also have financially contributed to the organization and would encourage others to do the same.

IBNN Editors Note: Residents of Minneapolis should read closely the messages sent out in the local Black press that attempt to position this organization as one on the move up, when in fact troubles continue to linger. IBNN has written favorable stories and not-so favorable stories about the Minneapolis Urban League (MUL). Since the Minneapolis Urban League is a membership organization, under the color of law, how will the MUL handle the possible over-throw of the current board to protect &ldquo;the membership&rsquo;s $16 million dollar investment on the corner of Penn and Plymouth Avenue North?&rdquo; If you recall &ndash; it was the Minneapolis Urban League management who decided to release great employees in favor of routing dollars to ACORN home foreclosure counseling, among other things. So far the National Urban League has not returned one call to IBNN in over a year&hellip; Under the Minnesota Law &ndash; &ldquo;We&rdquo; (members in good standing) have the sole responsibility to seek out competent board members and management to continue the organizations ongoing commitment to the community. Originally posted in The Minneapolis Story At 5:15 p.m., today, Thursday, 9-17-09, Minneapolis Urban League Branch President Scott Gray announced, in closed session, the new austerity: 10% salary reduction across the board; termination of ten employees within 30 days; and an indication that the staff of the Urban League Street Academy would go on part time employee status (thus losing their benefits). Ever since the sell-outs kicked Nellie Stone Johnson and me (Ron Edwards) out 20 years ago, when I was the President of the Urban League with 118 employees, they have cannibalized the organization, reducing it from the 118 employees then to what will be less than 20 employees now.
