I was once an teen mom, and didn't know of any nonprofit organizations such as this one that offered resources for young mothers in need. So I felt compelled to donate so that someone could benefit from the many resources that A.F.A.M has to offer. Overall this is a Great Organization, and I would be willing to volunteer or donate when needed!
Lillian has done an amazing job with the young adults she mentors and services. I am always inspired by her commitment to the girls as she truly puts all of her energy and heart into the program. We will continue supporting this great program.
I had the opportunity to work with AFAM over the last 3 years on a number of projects and Lillian Harris does an amazing job working with students who are on the brink. She builds up their esteem, teaches them responsibility, and presents real world solutions to what they are up against. If you are interested in being involved in an exceptional program, AFAM is definitely the one!
I have volunteered for AFAM for many years and each years things in this organization gets better. This organization searches and find ways to better the lives of young moms such as myself. Their is no other program like AFAM! Also, Lillian goes above and beyond to help young mothers exceed in life. She works extremely hard to find resources, scholarship, grants, housing and many other things so young women can be successful. She very dedicated to her organization which I love about her. Being apart of AFAM as a helping hand is one of the best decisions I ever made. I see great opportunity and success for AFAM in the future!
I financially support AFAM because it enables moms to help themselves and
gives them the tools they need to have a hope and future and vision for their lives. AFAM encourages these young moms to be an example so they can help others. Beverly S
I am a former adolescent mother herself, and i'm currently putting myself through college for the second time. I came to find out about AFAM from doing a paper on Overcoming Obstacles for my English class. I'm so glad i learned about this organization, and honestly, i wish that it was around when i was in my teens and . There are many NFPs that cater to teen parenthood prevention, but few that attempt to combat homelessness, poverty and abuse and promote furthering education and encouraging success the way that AFAM does. There are so many similarities in the founder and myself, and i'm so grateful that organizations like these exist, to give hope and encouragement where it is much needed. Teen moms shouldn't be the forgotten ones, the misfits, the judged. AFAM gives these girls and their families the opportunity to lead productive successful lives.
Love this organization! Currently enrolled and it's the best decision I made as a young mother. They truly help you in college and life. Make you plan and organize life time goals and accomplish them! Show you how to make time for school and being a mother. Nothing but positivity. I am honored to be accepted! Nothing but great recommendation as a student and a mother!
Since the inception of AFAM, we at SB Enterprises, Inc. (SBE) have always enjoyed watching their works and continued growth under the founders leadership. SBE has taken great pleasure in our donations to AFAM as contributions are distributed to assist teenage mothers in breaking the abuse and poverty cycle and replacing with empowerment, education, and sense of value and worth. Organizations such as AFAM must stay relevant and in existence due to the overwhelming need of the services they provide. We fully support AFAM and their efforts and urge others who are able, to also support this organization as they strive to achieve their mission.
Joining Advocates for Adolescent Mothers is one of the best things I've come across since starting college. Lilian is so supportive and gives the best advice. Her story and passion for AFAM is so inspiring. It makes me believe I can do it. I'm entirely grateful for meeting Lilan and joining AFAM, they support me and my son's dreams and are genuinely great people. They support and push us to beat all odds.
My name is Jessica Martinez and I am currently in the Advocates for Adolescent Mothers program and our first workshop was actually yesterday Saturday 16, 2017. It was very amazing working and sharing ideas with other young moms that are in the program as well. Also working with Lilian is nice because she understand what being a young mom is like because she has been in our shoes before and I trust her, and Lilian is a good listener she is like a second mom to me. I decided to join because when I meet Lilian at Malcolm X she told me all about the program and that she wants to help us young moms it made me feel special that there is a Scholarship for young moms and the money not only goes to school but for us and our babies which was a very smart idea and very rewarding for Lilian since us young moms dont have enough support or money to help our babies get their needs. I hope by writing this review it will encourage other young moms to join this organization because I want AFAM to continue on to their goal and I want AFAM to be a success in the future.
Meeting Lillian has been a blessing beyond measures. She is so passionate about her endeavors and helping young mothers and children. Serving as a member in the organization she make sure she keeps new innovative ways to make this organization notable everywhere.
I recently volunteered for AFAM to create their new brochure. The founder, Lillian Harris and I worked very well together. The response time was fine because she would let me know when she would respond back to me and she did. It was a positive experience for which we both got something out of it. She has a great brochure to hand out to promote her organization and I got a chance to get more brochure design experience. I learn a lot from this experience which is just because you have a child young, that doesn't mean you can't pursue your goals and dreams. I hope AFAM will be a continued success.
My experience with AFAM is as a volunteer at Roosevelt University and the organization is definitely important and needed in our City. The AFAM Infinite Legacy League had several events that I helped with to raise awareness and support the nonprofit. The founder is very diligent and organized which is what helps the organization thrive. My experience with the nonprofit as a whole was very rewarding and gave me insight into an organization that is doing work that not many nonprofits are doing.
AFAM is an amazing organization, I have personally witnessed the positive impact AFAM provides for young mothers. So many times we see nonprofits come and go but I know and believe Advocate for Adolescent Mothers is here to stay. AFAM is committed and invested in their mission by supporting teenage mothers and helping them to stay focused on education. I had the honor to be a part of the Lucheon Host Committee and the experience was richly rewarding to my heart.
I have had the privilege to work with AFAM for the last 2 years. This organization is so wonderful supporting adolescent mothers who I feel is a forgotten and misunderstood population, who is so deserving of our support. Paramount Staffing and my Church (Union Evangelistic Baptist Church) has supported the Holiday Drive the last 2 years. Myself and Paramount also supported the After School Matters Advocacy Program (Career Advisory Panel Event) and really enjoyed mentoring and sharing our careers with the teen mothers. Lillian Harris is a dedicated mentor and leader for these teen mothers and I look forward for continued support of AFAM.
As a teen mother myself I stand 100% behind AFAM and is why I have been a supporter and donor since day one. The opportunities that AFAM is able to afford these young women I wish someone like them was around when I needed help. Lillian is nothing short of amazing and I can't wait to see what she does next!
It is an amazing program, organized and directed by an amazing person! I've recently became a donor and volunteer. It is astounding to watch the transformation that occurs to the participants in the AFAM program! IkishaG
I became aware of Advocates for Adolescent Mothers when I applied for the Educational Empowerment Program Grant to help pay for my last semester of college. Since then, I have finished school, graduating from Roosevelt University with a BA in Psychology. I was the first person in my family to not only earn a college degree, but a high school diploma as well. I am so grateful to have met Lillian Harris and being apart of AFAM. I too became a mother at a young age, but being apart of AFAM, I learned that my dreams were not impossible to reach because I had a child young. Lillian Harris has taught me to use the obstacles that I have been faced with as motivation to exceed expectations. AFAM gave me a sense of belonging and a platform to share my story with other young moms and to be able to celebrate the accomplishments that no one thought we could achieve. I am thankful to have been apart of such an amazing organization.
I have been supporting and donating to Advocates For Adolescent Mothers (AFAM) since its conception. I love the purpose of the organization. Often times young women are ridiculed for poor decisions when in fact it is those times that the need the most support. Being able to donate money and time to AFAM has been so beneficial; to the moms I have helped, as well as to myself. The young ladies I have cone in contact with have taught me how to be more compassionate and empathetic to those around me. Without an organization and an affiliation like AFAM, I might have missed on that self growth opportunity.
I have always appreciated and valued groups that aid teens. When I was I introduced to AFAM shortly before becoming a single parent. Now I appreciate the organization even more so. Being a single parent is hard enough without the add pressure of being a teen who wants to fight becoming a stereotype. AFAM enables young women the resources to make the right choices for themselves and their children. I will continue to support this organization however and when ever I can.
I am a volunteer with AFAM! I helped out recently with the After School Matters program. Lillian was a great mentor to the young ladies there. She gave valuable information and shared her story to give the young ladies a sense of guildance. I decided to volunteer because I am a young my myself and I always looked to Lillian as a mentor. With me being around the young ladies age I chose to share my story just because I could talk to them as my peers.. AFAM is a great organization overall!
