CHIRP is a wonderful, well run organization to volunteer with. This non-profit has the most robust sense of community I've encountered in any non-profit to date. I guess that's because music really does bring people together!
Not only is local, independent, genre defying radio a form of media a lot of people are hungry for and can rally behind, it's also wicked fun to be part of its creation.
Volunteering my time with CHIRP affords me the opportunity to meet engaging, intelligent, witty, creative & enthusiastic people who bring a lot of different skills and perspectives to meetings and events.
If you're looking to hone a new skill (writing, reviewing, organizing, promoting, djing) or brush up on an existing one (that perhaps isn't utilized in your 9-5), this is an excellent space to contribute your time and effort. If you're serious about community & music, you'll find a welcoming group of committed individuals here.
I have been a volunteer at CHIRP for nearly five years now. It is very rewarding, and I feel like a valued member of the organization. Everyone is nice, and I have made great friends through my experience.
When people ask me about CHIRP, I am always proud to give my elevator speech. I am extremely proud to be part of this group considering its accomplishments and growth--we sought to achieve a goal and we did. We sought to secure a broadcast license and along the way, we helped enact change on the federal level. This reason alone makes me beam with pride. We are truly a member of the community and provide a valuable voice in the landscape.
I hope to be part of the CHIRP team for many many years to come. It is my way of doing what I love, and for many people in the organization, it is truly a labor of love.
started volunteering in february of this year and feel very welcome and part of a really good group of folks. i was hoping to join a community and it has been that and more. for the first time in a long time i'm really proud to represent something and to try to prove my worth and to impress. they bring that out in you. plus, music! lots and lots of music.
