Mission: Ssai's mission is to provide training and employment opportunities for senior citizens. In this regard, ssai involves itself in activities to determine how senior citizens may be assisted toward a positive role of worthwhile and valued contribution to society.
Programs: Senior community service employment program (scsep):this program is funded by the department of labor (dol) under title v of the older americans act. It offers low-income senior citizens opportunities for growth, skill enhancement and economic independence, while at the same time assisting communities in addressing vital needs in areas such as health, education, child care, aging and adult services. This program is administered by ssai through 85 subrecipients in 16 states. The subrecipients provided a total of $7,191,490 non-federal funding in administering the program. Approximately 7,312 and 7,220 seniors were served during the year ended june 30, 2017 and 2016, respectively.
senior environmental employment program (see):the environmental protection agency (epa) funds this program. The objective for this program is to provide employment opportunities for seniors who can provide technical and administrative assistance in the area of environmental inspection and regulations. There were approximately 228 seniors enrolled in the program who worked at various epa regional offices in 16 states, the district of columbia and puerto rico.
agriculture conservation experienced services (aces):this program is funded by the department of agriculture (usda) under title vii of the food security act. The purpose of the program is to utilize the talents of seniors to provide technical assistance in the area of conservation related programs. For the year ended june 30, 2017 there were 14 senior enrollees working in usda offices in the state of florida and puerto rico.
