Causes: Adoption, Children & Youth
Mission: The organization provides support to the adoptive community and to advocate for the needs of adoptive families
Programs: Cafa started as two moms parenting children with complex mental health needs. They needed help and couldnt find support in their community. Cafa has remained a 100% parent-led organization supported by our families and volunteers in the community. Parents who have lived experience run all of our programs, events, trainings, outreach and education. In addition, cafa surveys after each event and support group to ensure it is meeting the needs of member families. When cafa first began surveying, it found high levels of isolation, loneliness, stress and lack of support. The organization has grown all of its programs around these statistics. When planning events and trainings it always strives to build resilience in all individuals who make up our member families. It does this through providing respite for the children and parents, trainings by licensed clinicians, discussions and trainings on building resilience, creating natural supports for families through its growing community, non-traditional trainings in areas of mindfulness and relaxation, and resource sharing. Cafa structures its supports around the entire family. However, its families have these needs because of their child. In the end, it really is all about the children and keeping them in safe and loving homes while supporting their complex mental health needscafa provides: peer-led support groupseducation and trainingadvocacyrespiteresource librarycommunity connectionsfamily eventssummer camp for parents and the youth they care for
