Mission: Bjcc's mission is to provide quality of life to the residents of the bronx (especially the elderly) by offering services, support, and connections to resources that help people continue living comfortably and safely in their homes and communities.
Programs: Basic supportive services:our basic supportive services are a life-line for residents of the bronx living at or below the poverty line. Services range from basic care management, eviction prevention, client advocacy to information and referrals.
food pantry and cash relief:bjcc's food pantry is the largest in the east bronx and distributes over 2,400 food packages each month. Each package includes enough food for three meals for three days for three people. This program feeds anyone who comes to our door hungry. The pantry receives its food from the food bank of new york, met council, uja-federation of westchester families feeding families program, and food drives from various synagogues in westchester. Each month food is sorted into packages that typically include a box of pasta and sauce, can of vegetables, can of fruit, soup and other goods when available. However, this supplement is often dependent on what food is available at the food bank. norc supportive service programs are designed to foster elder-friendly communities, and is ideally suited to indentify and help isolated seniors in the housing community it serves. Housing is a primary concern for seniors in new york city and a critical factor in creating an elder-friendly community. Ready access to a range of coordinated support services and opportunities, as provided through these contracts, are a major factor for succesful aging in place. Furthermore, seniors benefit when these services and opportunities are an integral part of their surroundings and daily life.
