I'm DISGUSTED with Bronxworks on Townsend in the Bronx. I went to the one on Grand Concourse but was referred to the Townsend offices because of my zip code. I need housing information and resources. I tried calling the number but the extension for the Housing worker has no answer, no voicemail and the call just ends. I tried to speak with an operator but no one answered so I decided to walk-in because the flyer states walk-ins are welcome here. I get to 1477 Townsend and it's a tenement building with no posted notices about Bronxworks. I left the building and found the office entrance on 172nd Street in the back of the building in the basement. I rang the bell and 3 people came to the door which I found a little intimidating. One of the three staff decides to inquire about my visit. I explained my experience with my failed attempts at calling hence my walk-in, and needed housing information, resources. Ultimately I am told to go to Home Base but I explained that I was denied because I am a single male. The person tells me she is currently with a client so I said I could wait (as I am in a dire emergency). She asks me how much are my arrears... all this is taking place in the entrance of the office so everyone hears my sob story. I got the feeling that I was getting the "pass the buck" treatment. It was embarrassing that I had to insist on getting information or a resource.
5 minutes of sitting there I hear the woman yell out , "sir, come this way" but I didn't know that the yelling was for me, nor could I know where she was yelling at me from because I'm still in the entrance area and don't know where to go. I get up and look around and she instructs me to talk to her coworker. I sat down with the coworker, who was visibly tired, and yawning. I explained my situation and she gives me a sheet of paper with Catholic charities and tells me to call them for assistance.
No one asked me about nor gave me resources for being homeless and living in a shelter. I feel so embarrassed to be in a situation where I am begging for information and here is a so called " community organization" that basically told me to go to hell. We can't help you. So, F YOU Bronxworks. I'll be sending this review to your funders.
I was attempted to be groomed and sold in sex trafficking at this safe haven in the Bronx 146th st . This is my second review. Stop trying to hide the truth ! This was 2018!!!! I made a review about my newly uncovered trauma and it suddenly disappeared? Proving even further how bad sex trafficking really is even with the social workers .
2016 REVIEW:

Bronx works use to go by the name CAB. Outstanding agency so helpful to the community by far!!!! Love this agency to the fullest...
They have helped the Homeless population in New York City have a place to go to for warmth, food and all services. The number of tret homeless has declined considerably and have made a better place for all concerned.
BronxWorks does everything. It is a great organization in the settlement house tradition. You know that if a Bronx resident is in trouble, you can refer them to BronxWorks and they will be taken care of. They have an incredible range of services, but in eviction prevention they are just spectacular. They don't see landlords as the enemy but work with them to keep people in their homes. BronxWorks is a much needed resource and a lifeline for the community.
I've been traveling the Bronx, specially the South Bronx, for over 28 years. I consider myself an eyewitness of the straggles that the poor people of this area go through in their daily survival. Things that we take for granted like food, shelter, health care, child care and education is not a common occurence in their lives, what is constant is hunger, homelessness, crime, illness, drug addition, etc. That's when BronxWorks comes to the rescue with the most dedicated and compassionate staff that one can imagine, providing nourishing food, clean and decent housing, carrying for the sick, opportunity for employment, job training, educating the immigrants, in all, taking care of the old and the young with LOVE. I know for sure that the BronxWorks, Inc, is a GOD sent organization to provide for the less fortunate among us. I urge you all in this HOLIDAY SEASON to count your blessings and to remember with your prayers and with your dollars the good folks of BronxWorks in their quest to serve with LOVE those in need. Sincerey, Manny Silva
I volunteered on Thanksgiving Day last year at their homeless drop-in center. They had a great team. One of the supervisors who came in to help out brought her seven year-old daughter. They treated the homeless people in the facility like family.
I'm a property owner in the Bronx. Bronxwork (A/K/A CAB) has been helping the poor to find funding and preventing them from being evicted and homeless in NYC. I've been working together with Bronxworks for over 15 years. This is a great organization with their hearts and action in the right place.
BronxWorks is a great organization. They've been helping the people of the Bronx for years. If you have a problem, they're the place to go for results. When it comes to food and shelter, no one does more for Bronxites than BronxWorks. They're imprint can be seen on homeless services Citywide!
Bronxworks is a client focused organization. They provide excellent services to the community and at risk individuals. Their drop-in center does an excellent job at finding permanent housing for homeless clients.
I have been partnering with BronxWorks, formally known as Citizens Advise Bureau for about 14 years. I was their landlord for 11 years, housing the Living Room in the building that I worked in. Initially I was concerned about sharing my space with a homeless organization, but that was quickly changed. I saw how everyone in their staff was truly concerned with the welfare of their clients and neighbors. They all helped in making our neighborhood a better place to live and work in.
