As a volunteer for Blooms That Brighten, Inc. for almost two years, I am delighted to say that this project has truly inspired me as the volunteer, probably as much as it gives joy to the recipients of the weekly floral arrangements. We gather fresh flowers every Wednesday from local stores, meet at Schmidt's Flowers, and create an average of 100 vases that we then deliver to local continuing care facilities and to hospice. I have experienced the smiles and joy this brings to so many who may never receive such outpouring of love. Many of us have special memories of flower or gardening moments in our lives, so this speaks to the very core of our spirit. We volunteers love that we can share our passion for flowers in such a unique way, touching the lives of those who also appreciate the beauty of nature but can no longer actively participate in gardening.
The organization is well run with a Board of Directors overseeing all and with volunteer team leaders organized for scheduling, pick-up, sorting, arranging, delivery, cleaning up, fundraising, recording hours and administrative. Over the years I have been involved with many non-profits and from a volunteer's perspective, Blooms That Brighten is one of the most visionary, dedicated and well functioning organizations I have been associated with.
For each vase that I arrange, I say "Go in joy, peace and love" and I know that I have touched someone's life every week.
