Mission: Our mission is to foster networking of black physicians in the greater rochester area. Providing mentoring resources for fellows, residents, medical students, and undergraduate students. Providing community resources for agencies desiring contact with or information from black physicians in the area. Demonstrating attainable career paths for youth who lack tangible role models in the field of medicine. Community outreach and fundraising to help inspire black youth to pursue careers in medicine. Partnering with other black professions: lawyers, teachers, accountants etc. , to provide inspiration and collaboration to foster innovation and excellence in the youth in our community. Developing strategies to help address health disparities in the black community.
Programs: Support of the university of rochester's htyap program (health technology youth apprenticeship program) both financially and with donated time. The programs supports young underrepresented minority high school students who are interested in stem fields.
scholarship program - to support underrepresented minorities who are seeking an education in the field of medicine.
physician heal thyself grant which supports mental health among black residents and fellows who are doctors in training who are particularly vulnerable to depression, suicide and burn-out. We have a monthly activity with them that focuses on their mental health.
support of the snma conference (student national medical association) both financially and by staffing the round table discussions with practicing physicians. The conference brings professionals, high school and college students from around the county together to learn what it's like to be a doctor, how to get into medical school, what the challenges are, etc.
