To generate additional skilled employment in repair and maintenance overseas, and provide satisfying environmental and humanitarian community service opportunities for volunteers in the united states.
Programs: During 2014, bikes for the world (bfw) enlisted the participation and assistance of over 100 u. S. Businesses & community service organizations, and 900 individual volunteers, to collect 14,401 used bicycles and donate them to program partners in 9 countries: the united states, barbados, costa rica, el salvador, ghana, kenya, panama, sierra leone, and south africa. Bicycles donated abroad provided access to employment, skills training, education, and health care. Bicycles donated in the united states provided transportation to low-income workers, and training and recreational opportunities for at-risk youth. Bfw's volunteer-based efforts provide educational and rewarding community service opportunities to volunteers of all ages, enabling many to meet service requirements for high school graduation, boy scout and girl scout eagle and gold ranks, bar mitzvah service, and more.
