Causes: Arts & Culture, Symphony Orchestras
Mission: Symphony orchestra
Programs: The season series concerts and special performances are a cultural draw for the beloit and janesville communities. Programming is focused on creating broad appeal to audiences while incorporating pops and traditional classical elements. The symphony has an annual performance in cooperation with local school districts, individual music teachers and home education groups in the spring. This year the bjso continued its "composing kids: making music with the maestro" program which gave students the opportunity to compose music to accompany short animated films. The effor was coordinated directly with teachers through classroom visits. The symphony is working directly with local libraries to create programs to encourage music education and involve children and teachers with the resources of the library and symphony. The symphony continued its annual collaboration with the beloit international film festival, providing a live score to accompany the 1926 buster keaton silent film "the general". The symphony also continued its annual july 4th pre fireworks performances. These event based performances are responsible for introducing symphonic work to non-traditional audiences in our community.
