Mission: In our 14-year lifetime we have sought to answer our mission by providing a summer program for children with autism and similar disabilities, a program that includes both classroom work and daily field trips. Begun by parents in 1987, ACAP's first session ran only during the month of August and served 8 children. This year it will last two months and serve nearly 100 children. The primary goal of our program is to maintain autistic children's academic, behavioral, and life skills throughout the summer. ACAP also provides children a wide variety of social situations and experiences in the community. Trips into the community, in turn, increase awareness of autism and individuals with disabilities. Finally, by occupying children for six hours each day, ACAP provides hours of respite for parents from the demanding job of caring for an autistic child.
