Mission: All maryland public school students have equitable access to arts education so that they can learn and achieve in and through dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts.
Programs: Administration of the maryland artist/teacher institute (mati). Working in partnership with the maryland state department of education and the maryland state arts council, aems administers the maryland artist/teacher institute. Mati is an intensive professional development program for elementary and middle school teachers and administrators, conducted by master teachers, artists, and artist educators in a residential university setting in the summer, with follow-up through the academic year.

The mphsdsshowcases excellence in public school dance education in maryland. Highschools submit audition materials, attend a full day of master classes,share with other dancers from around the state, and are exposed tocollege and university dance programs in maryland.
continuation of the teaching artist institute (tai). Tai is a professional development program for artists interested in working directly with teachers and students in schools. Initiated in fy 2007, tai is conducted in partnership with young audiences/arts for learning of maryland, the maryland state arts council, and aems. The tai program trains artists in the use and understanding of the fine arts state curriculum, as well as arts integration and classroom management strategies that will enable them to more effectively engage teachers and students during their school residencies.
