new shaghai circus, was the first chinesse acrobat troup to perform on broadway. They embody a 2000 year-old tradition of juggling, balancing, big washu, towers of people balancing in precarious tableaus, spinning plates, giant yo-yos flung in perfect unison, etc. In the winter of 2013 we presented the company in the small towns of merced, hanford, longview, sierra vista and the larger communities of walnut creek, san diego, and eugene or. The show is of intest to young and old. It represents an artform and way of life that is without political meaning and has survived through many changes of government in china. Many of the stunts use skillls familar to gymnasts and dancers. The chinese circus succeeds in being universally accessible and joyous, as much art tries to be. It celebrates skill dedication and concentration. Chinese circus art helps people appreciate diversity and respect the accomplishments of a culture that has not relied on technology nor machines for some of its greatest achievements. 5,355 attended 9 perfomances in four states.
