Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera
Mission: Ardea arts (new opera for new audiences)is a non-for-profit development and production company dedicated to creating and performing new opera and music theatre works of the highest professional quality, which challenge as well as entertain, speak to our diverse global community and champion the human spirit. Our committment extends to global audiences of all ages and all walks of life. We bring together unexpected artisits to redefine and revitalize opera for the 21st century. Our goal is to create work that brings new audiences and new generations to opera, and that travels into diverse communities to engage people and their communities both within and far outside the walls of the opera house.
Programs: Bounce - the basketball opera is performed on an actual basketball court and is grounded in contemporary issues facing today's youth, including teen violence. Pairing diverse casting with a fresh approach to arts education, high school students are integrated into the production.
animal tales is a wacky, rambunctious and inspiring opera/musical about daring to be different, overcoming stereotypes and finding purpose and happiness in life.
fireworks- a hilarious opera/musical about a curious alien who travels to earth to investigate why we shoot colored lights into the sky every year on the 4th of july. The alien encounters a geeky high school boy, a rebellious teenage girl, a pompous street actor and the parks groundskeeper, who wishes everyone would take more civic pride in their park. The alien has explored zillions of galaxies, but shes never seen anything as brash, daring or infectious as this idea of democracy!
