Programs: Fog water farms project: awb-seattle sent 5 volunteers from seattle to lomas de zapallal, an informal, disenfranchised community near lima, peru that does not receive any municipal services. Awb-seattle has an established relationship with this community, and in collaboration with the university of washington, the universidad de san marcos, the fogarty international scholars program and robert rauschenberg foundation, has worked on multiple projects in previous years, including a school, two parks, and individual gardens. Our volunteer team worked with the community to facilitate design and construction of fog collection systems, water storage, and a sport court. Producing their own water empowers the residents to grow their own food, and the irrigation of the public gardens helps reduce pollution while providing much-needed green space for the entire community. The grant funded construction materials and labor, volunteer travel and stipends.

Everest, alleviating the environmental and health hazards from the human waste that is currently being dumped in open pits, and creating a source of energy - biogas - for the local sherpa community and porters. The travel stipend covered transportation and food.
