Mission: The arc warren county chapter, is dedicated to helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live a good life - one where they have a chance to fulfill their potential make choices, be as independent as possible, work, have friends, and otherwise blend into society. We are also committed to assisting families to address the challenges associated with the care of their family members with such disabilities. As an advocacy organization, we work to create the kind of society where the people we serve are accepted and respected.
Programs: The arc provides residential services for adult men & women with various developmental disabilities, serving nearly 96 individuals in 18 group homes and supervised apartments, and those living with their families or on their own. Our focus is to teach each person to function in the most independent manner possible while learning and maintaining social skills to successfully interact in the community (recreation, social opportunities, personal care, cooking housekeeping, etc. ) group homes vary from 2 to 7 individuals and provide 24-hour supervision by highly trained staff members. Supervised apartments offer more independence and each houses 2-3 individuals. They are also taught specific skills, with guidance provided as needed, geared toward a greater level of independence. For individuals living with their families or on their own, we assist with transportation, medical appointments, financial support, and other supports as needed.
since 1979, project first step has been providing early intervention services to warren county developmentally disabled and delayed infants and toddlers aged birth to three and their families. It is the only new jersey e. I program in the county delivering e. I services (including speech and physical therapies, social work, special education, and family training services) to over 258 infants and toddlers in home and daycare settings. Parents are encouraged to fully participate in these services and are instructed to follow through with recommended therapeutic interventions in-between sessions.
a family support program serving approximately 66 families gives parents/caretakers a respite from demanding work needed to care for their developmentally disabled family members.
the arc sponsors a variety of other programs. The social service department provides social work and arranges for services for people who may not otherwise know how to locate vital services to improve their quality of life. Educational workshop and forums are also run to educate the youth of warren county about preventions topics like fetal alcohol syndrome and traumatic brain injury. A recreation program serving 201 individuals provides a variety of schedules physical and social activities for individuals age 3 and up. 97% of participants met their social development goals and 91% met their physical skills goals. Also there are several free of charge programs. The saturday children respite program (for children age 3 and up) with developmental disabilities that live with their families provides respite for caregivers as well as opportunities for parents to develop social skills and join in recreational activities. The sibling program (for children ages 5-10) addresses the special needs of children who have a brother or sister with a disability. Therapeutic recreation respite camp warren provided 89 individuals with six weeks of day camp and two weeks of residential camp, with 98% of caregivers stating they experienced a reduction of workload and stress during the campers' stay, and that 98% said that campers benefitted both socially and physically from camp participation.
