Programs: Cuddle coatscuddle coats educates the public about the inherent cruelty of the fur industry and encourages people to donate fur coats to aid orphaned and injured wildlife in their recovery at our many wildlife rehabilitation partners. In 2017 we took in 414 fur donations from across the country, and we held well attended monthly volunteer cuddle coats prep sessions to prepare the furs for shipping to our rehab partners.
education/community outreachin 2017, arc distributed 10,252 pieces of literature about animal issues to the public at 29 different large outreach events and gave out over 4,000 samples of vegan food at 10 food sampling events. Community outreach activities ranged from informational booths and leafleting at events such as open streets nicollet, northeast, and west broadway, longevity expo, healthy life expo, earth day at cigna healthcare, minnesota green expo, twin cities book festival, birth and baby expo, education minnesota conference and minnesota science teachers association conference, vegfest, and duluth and twin cities pride festivals, to weekend outreach at midtown, nokomis, and kingfield farmers markets, to providing educational presentations, to leafleting after concerts, and to helping the hundreds of individuals who contacted us for assistance with everything from questions about puppy mills to how to humanely remove mice.
ethique nouveauone of our more ambitious outreach projects is our all-vegan storefront, ethique nouveau. The store is completely animal-friendly and cruelty-free and is one of the best ways we know to show people how easy it is to live compassionately, without causing harm to animals. The store not only provides a space where people can learn more about vegansim and find the products they want; it also shows the larger community that a significant number of people want to use harm-free products made without the use of animal testing, ingredients, skins, or furs. The storefront allows us to reach as many people as months of leafleting and to have one-on-one conversations with hundreds of customers curious about adopting a plant-based diet. Its a great, non-threatening form of outreach. In tracking the conversations we have with people about animal rights, veganism, and other issues related to animals at the storefront, the numbers show that when people come into the store theyre generally interested in learning more about plant-based eating, whether they are already vegan, are interested in becoming vegan, or hadnt even thought about it when they first came in.
