I closely follow horse rescues in the area as there are many that are not what they say they are. Jo Deibel and Angel Acres are the real deal! I have watched her educational work via the Stop Slaughtering Us Website and billboards throughout the US and Canada. I have watched her follow up work with adopted horses as well as with Mattie's Fund, a fund that provides immediate need for those that are desperate need. Whether it is blankets, medical attention, or perhaps feed or grain Jo goes OUT of her way to assist the horses. I donate because I know what she does. Her horses at the farm look great. Her feed room is extremely organized- great fencing too. Best of all she is accredited by GFAS (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) which is like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. I have adopted a wonderful TB from her also. He is a true love. When I told her what I was looking for she matched us up perfectly. Thank you Jo/Angel Acres for all that you do for the horses!
Dear Jo, How are you? How are things going ? Hope you are doing well. Miss you. Jo, is a great humanitarian . She loves saving horses and any animals. She saves horses from being slaughtered. Jo is a great person who cares. take care Jo, loves and hugs to you

ANGEL HORSE HAVEN RESCUE, IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS. IT IS A HAVEN FOR HORSES. JO DIEBEL IS ONE OF THE MOST CARING AND LOVING PERSON WHO HAS A -A-TEAM WORKING WITH JO IN HELPING AND SAVING THE HORSES LIVES.....HER TEAM IS AS GOOD OR EVEN BETTER THEN MOST. SHE QUIT HER REGULAR JOB TO TAKE ON A TASK EVERY DAY OF HER LIFE IN SAVING AND HELPING HORSES. SHE AND HER TEAM TAKE IN ABUSED, OR READY TO SLAUGHTERED HORSES AND BRING THEM BACK TO HEALTH AND GET GOOD HOMES FOR THEM. JO, IS A ANGEL FOR HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS. YOU CAN'T GET ANYONE BETTER THAN HER. TO ME SHE IS BEST IN SHOW. HER WHOLE FAMILY HELPS HER. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE NAME IS ANGEL ACRES HORSE HAVEN. SHE HAS BROUGHT STARVING HORSE BACK TO LIFE AND HEALTH.
Jo has helped a lot of animals, so many horses lives would have have been lost if not for her and her helpers
No one goes above and beyond the call of duty like Jo and this organization as a whole. Every review (excluding one slanderous one by an "anonymous reviewer" with no back bone) has seen the level of professionalism and results that this organization displays day in, day out, year after year.
I suggest people attempting to needlessly create enemies online (with absolutely no evidence nor guts to answer their phone or return an email) find something better to do with their time. Angel Acres is a top-notch organization in what can be a very dark world of animal rescue.
I am shocked an appalled that the proprietor of this rescue would libel my good name in order to gather likes on her rescue's FB page. I called her to reach out to her as she stated on her page. She never had the common decency to return my phone call. This is not a professional organization by any stretch. AVOID this place.

You are a LIAR and you know it. I have given you my number, you did not call me, ever. You sit behind your computer and throw around accusations. Then when we try to reach out to you, you block us and don't let us defend ourselves. This review has been flagged, we should not be able to reviewed by a person who we have never spoken to us and blatantly lies about their "Experience" with us.
Today I received begging letters from two horse rescue organizations, both of which have a small mistake in my name, indicating I have been sold out by someone to whom I donated and my name has been used by a corporation doing fund raising for small non-profits. The mailing address for the donation requested was in Maryland, not Pennsylvania. Clearly it is going to the for-profit organization collecting the money. Heaven only knows how much the rescue group actually receives. I have asked the rescue to remove my name from their list, or to ask the list owner to do so. When I find out which organization sold my name, you can bet there will be no further donations to that one, either.

Jo D. 02/01/2014
Regarding your profile which I saw on GreatNonprofits.org: Hi, Thank you for letting us know you no longer wish to receive our mailings. We DO have a farm in Maryland. We have 2 farms - one is the main rescue farm where horses are allowed to recover and are rehabilitated at and the other one (one in MD) is the farm where they are retrained to be adopt out. We use a professional fundraising service to help us with our mission because without their assistance getting the word out to the general public about the need for horse rescue we would not be able to fulfill our mission as successfully. For the record the professional fundraiser, used by many groups, costs about 1 to 2 cents per mailing. Please send me your name and address and I will promptly have you removed. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. The email to reply back to me is: angelacreshorsehaven@yahoo.com Thank you, Jo Deibel Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc.
Review from Guidestar
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue is a legitimate animal welfare non-profit run by a fantastic lady, Jo Deibel. They have helped so many horses, and other animals, out of treacherous and life-threatening situations, and are trusted members of the Pennsylvania community of Glenville. Jo has risked life and limb to save horses at auction from going to the slaughter houses. She has stood up against ridicule and adversity to save all of the animals she is capable of saving along with her trusted team of volunteers. She works so hard, doing the media, promoting, donation hunting, fund raising, and the dirty business of stall work and taking care of the sick horses. She has a heart of gold, and only wants to help the most beautiful and intelligent beasts who live on this earth. She makes a difference with this rescue organization, a positive influence in an otherwise negative world. A great charity to send your money to.
Review from Guidestar
This is the best rescue organization that I am aware of. Jo has the passion of a saint, she loves what she does and saves the lives of many horses. While she is doing that, she saves the lives of many people who adopt/connect with her horses. I'm thankful that I've had the opportunity to save a horse's life while he helped to save mine. Thank you Jo, keep doing what you do. You are an Angel. GLP

When Jo let me adopt Snickers My Joy, she helped change my life for the better. This was my first experience as a horse owner and I had alot to learn. Well, I love my horse, he always listens and I love his fuzzy nose twinkles, licks and kisses. He helped heal my soul and gave me comfort unexplainable. He was broken as well and need much care. Most of all he needed time and LOVE. We made it, I thank you again Jo for the wonderful work that you do. You saved 2 lives, his and mine. Don't ever stop doing what God has inspired you to do Jo and your staff. Blessing are headed your way. There are so many people who love you. You are a special lady. I will support and love you always. Now if I could just get that P90X, ahaha. Have a blessed holiday season and again, we thank you.

Over the last 5 years I have seen this great rescue grow in directions I never knew it could. Why? Because of Jo . Her passion, dedication to the horses continues to drive her efforts. She got her GFAS (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) accredidation long before almost all of the other equine rescues. Why? because she wants donors to see where their money goes. And Mattie's Legacy Fund has become an integral program assisting horses whose owners have fallen on hard times. Her recent work with my local Animal Control in just the last few months has helped 3 horses whose futures were very grim. And then there is the educational billboard campaign (www.stopslaughteringus.com) designed to educate the public about horse slaughter. Yep her efforts are felt all over the US.. with over 20 billboards and horses across the US she is making a difference.. well wothy of donations!
Angel Acres is a great rescue for horses...I have seen the amazing work they have done with some of their "saved" horses...truly inspiring!
I think Angel Acres are Angels...Helping Horses like they do is a beautiful thing...So many horses are put in fields and forgotten about. It breaks my heart when I see a dirty forgotten horse in the field which I hate to say but in my area you see many of them. So I Thank Angel Acres for being there and for doing what they do...For their kindness and love for a beautiful animal Thank-You Angel Acres...God Bless You All !!!
Angel Acres Horse Rescue, is a step above most rescues. She has programs in place to help folks in tough times such as her Mattie's fund. She makes sure the person adopting the rescue horse is a good fit. Willing accepting back horses that do not work out for various reasons. Comes up with creative ways to raise funds for her rescue. I have worked with many different facilities over the years, this is not a job for Jo it is her passion. No one does it better.
I am a volunteer, donor and client served by Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. It was hard to choose just one from the list of roles.
I have seen many of the horses upon their arrival into the rescue so I have seen them in their worst and in their best condition. I can ensure you that every horse that Jo rescues gets the best of care and retraining. When I look into the eyes of those horses that could have very easily ended up in the slaughter pen had Jo not rescued them, it breaks my heart. At the same time my heart is filled with joy knowing that Jo worked hard to get those horses to safety and into the rescue.
I am also an adopter of an Angel Acres horse. I adopted my pony and I love him dearly. I think it's great the way Jo screens potential adopters and ensures that every horse goes to a great, loving home.
In general, Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue is a top-notch, well run, compassionate rescue organization. I never hesitate to donate money and I always know my money is going to help the horses whether it be for feed, hay, vet or farrier expenses. I support other animal rescues too but, Angel Acres is my top, number one, favorite rescue. Thank you Jo and everyone at Angel Acres for all you do for the horses.

I have the privilege to do volunteer work for Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue and I have seen the sweet, beautiful horses that are brought into the rescue. If it were not Jo Diebel and all her volunteers, these dear animals would most likely go to a horrible fate. Jo works very hard to ensure that every horse who gets adopted out is healthy, sound and re-trained. I know this first hand. I see it every day! Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue operates with honesty, integrity and with the utmost loving care for EACH and EVERY horse in their rescue facilities.
Not only does this rescue save horses but, they help people who have fallen on hard times via Mattie's Legacy Fund by providing money & resources for hay, feed, vet care, etc.
All these reasons and more are why Angel Acres Horse Haven rescue IS my favorite and top horse rescue for which I choose to volunteer for and support.
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. does such good work, helping the animals that others throw away, are abusive too and just plain starve to brink of death. I applaud the work they do and wish them many more years of helping Gods creatures.
My wife and I adopted a OTTB from Angel Acres, she is truly a beauty she glints red just like Big Red aka Secretariat. We also had the opportunity to become foster parents for 2 OTTB's for Angel Acres and I know in the future we will turn to Angel Acres when we have the room to take on another OTTB. Jo and her team have done an amazing job at educating the public and the politicians about the plight of the OTTB , The billboard campaign shows her tenacity, Jo 's stewardship has seen this organization grow into something very positive and much needed. thank you.
Jo and her team at Angel Acres are top notch! Not only do they care for their horses, they help others and even lend a hand helping other non-profits. I can't say enough about this group -
Angel Acres and Jo are amazing....when we found out one of our former racehorses had ended up in a kill pen some time after she belonged to us (!!!!), Jo was the first person I called. She helped calm me down and immediately sprang into action. Polish Glory is safe now because of her! I will continue to support Angel Acres in every way I can because they can and do make a huge difference to all of our less fortunate equine friends.
Although I have not had the privilege of meeting Jo Deibel in person, I have had MANY wonderful conversations with her. I found her on Facebook and she agreed to pick up an OTTB for one of my boarders and put him in the 'program'. The conditions of the facility where this gelding was picked up was HORRIFIC. After a brief time with the horse, the 'new' owner decided she did not WANT this horse and wanted me to return him.... I searched high and low for the perfect place to send this gelding and found Angel Acres Horse Haven. Jo not only bought the gelding for the purchase price but also sent me board money until she was able to have him picked up. She even arranged for my veterinarian to come and do whatever was necessary to help this gelding. He came off the track with a leg injury. After following her on FB and the numerous phone conversations, I know that what she is doing is REAL. I am also very impressed with her policy of helping 'rehome' the horse if the situation arises.
I haven't yet had the honor or privilege of working with Angel Acres or Jo, but just from watching them work and sharing things she posts on Facebook in an effort to help what little I can, I have seen that this is a wonderful place and she is a great person for offering her time and effort to speak up and speak out for these great animals. The education she gives the public is top notch and helps to promote this cause. If I ever get the chance to have a horse or horses of my own, I am going to reach out to Angel Acres and do what I can to help one of these fine horses get a place with me. I will continue to support them how ever I can.
I have had the honor to be in contact and adopt a horse from Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue. They were very thorough in their application and adoption process. They helped to make sure that the horse I wanted to rescue was the right horse for my family. I would highly recommend this rescue to anyone looking for a good, reputable rescue. Amazing job Jo!!!!!
Although I haven't actually been to Angel Acres, or met Jo in person I am in the process of adopting a mare. I can not tell you how wonderful and helpful Jo was just over the phone. I went into this thinking it would take absolutely forever to actually get the horse, but I filled out my adoption form and 3 days later I was approved! I would also like to commend Angel Acres and all they do for their horses. Any kind of animal abuse is unacceptable and just breaks my heart. I believe God created and put animals on this earth for our enjoyment and affection-NOT to abuse and neglect. I was thrilled to find out about Angel Acres and all the horses who have been given a second chance with a wonderful life. Keep up the good work! you guys rock :] -Bethany
I have been following the activities of this rescue for quite some time and I'm so impressed with the wonderful work they do!!! They are truly a blessing to horses!

It has been my pleasure to know Jo for many years. Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue does a incredible job of educating as well as helping not only horses but other animals as well. Jo has offered us her help on more than one occasion, she is to be admired and thanked for all the time and effort she put in. I cannot imagine all the horses that would not have been saved had it not been for her work. Thank you Jo!!
I've both volunteered for Angel Acres and am fostering a horse through them. Jo puts her heart and soul into Angel Acres. I've seen her work all hours of the day, in a seemingly tireless effort to maximize the number of horses AA can save. Like many rescuers, Jo is compassionate and feels the compulsion to do something, to make a difference. But Jo is also brilliant, so she is about to harness that compassion into an effective strategy that makes a true impact.
I have adopted from Angel Acres and have fostered for Angel Acres, they play a critical role in the horse racing world. not only do they step up to the plate and rehome the OTTB they are. Also all about educating the public to the plight of the OTTB. Jo Is tireless as an ambassador for those who cannot speak for themselves, the OTTB. Thank you Angel Acres and Jo.
Although I have never adopted a horse from Angel Acres, I have been following them for years and supporting them when I can. The Stop Slaughtering Us bill boards have been far reaching throughout the US. They are a class act organization.
I have been an Angel Acres supporter for many years. It warms my heart to know that Jo and the other people who run Angel Acres take the time to help horses in need. They are doing a great job with those horses. Some of those horses were considered garbage to their owners, but Angel Acres takes them in and gives them a good life. I love what Angel Acres stands for. They take horses of all ages and give them the life that they deserve.
Adopted 2 beautiful babies from Angel Acres. Couldn't ask for a more caring person than Jo and her staff. They move mountains to do what they do! Keep saving those babies!
I have had the honor of both fostering and adopting from Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue. They do an incredible job at placing horses in permanent homes and rescuing those in need as well as educating the public on the realities of horse slaughter. My adopted horse is such a wonderful guy and is such a good match for us that I plan to adopt from Angel Acres again, in the future when we are able to take on another horse.
Angel Acres with Jo and all the volunteers work very hard to rescue and rehome horses. The work they do is never ending in this day and age, yet they never say no and are always willing to help. I have watched their skills at rehabilitating horses that others have tossed to the curb with amazement as the horses come in looking trashed and scared, but when they leave they are returned to their glorius state and thru time come to trust again. God bless them!
Angel Acres and Jo are a homeless horses best friend. They also educate the public on the horrors of horse slaughter. Our horses need an advocate and they have one in Angel Acres.

I am facebook friends with Angel Acres, and i support and fully believe in what they do. Jo rescues horses (and cats!) and cares for, and protects them. She sends them under contract, and checks up on their status. Rescue is expensive, and adoption fees are fair. Any horse in need of rescue would be blessed to end up with her.
Jo also is working on anti horse slaughter billboards to hopefully reach across America, and God willing will accomplish this. To those who feel they could do this better, have at it. Buy land, become a non profit, and start saving horses correctly. Thank you Angel Acres, from Ellie and many horses.
Review from Guidestar
I think Jo and her group do a wonderful job. They don't just rescue, but actively educate the public about the slaughter issue which is sorely needed.
Im writing to say I think Angel Acres does a phenomenal job !
A friend of mine has had an Angel Acres rescue for quite some years now!
The beautiful horse was hours away from slaughter when Angel Acres stepped in to help
That horse with one foot in the grave is now a beloved companion and multiple blue ribbon winner
It is apparent from looking at the financials of this non profit that they understand how to get a dollar to go that extra furlong ! I proudly support the efforts of Angel Acres and am dismayed that there are individuals out there who think it necessary to leave scalding reviews of this organization just out of spite or ignorance or both !
After looking over the financials of this 501C3 I am appalled at the small amount of monies that really goes to the horses care at this "rescue".

angelacreshorsehaven 03/09/2013
2013 was your last interaction with us? WRONG...I don't even know who you are and apparently you cannot read a 990 correctly. ALL of the donations with the exception of approximately 8% (which goes for printing, mailing, IT, email, etc - items needed to run the rescue) goes to horse care, horse rescue, horse rehabilitation and educating the public about horse slaughter.
I first dealt with Angel Acres about ten years ago. We adopted a lovely TB nare who had been dumped at New Holland and rescued by Angel Acres. Since then, AA has become a national voice decrying horse slaughter and all its attendant abuses.
I have had the pleasure of working with Jo Deibel at Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue from the very beginning when she just started. Jo contacted me to advise her in the riding/evaluation aspect of the rescue. I am a professional polo player and thus an experienced rider and horse trainer. I would evalutate the suitablity of the horses in her program for prospective adopters. I have worked with Jo continuously since the opening of her rescue and can vouch that it is run with the utmost honesty, integrity and her main objective is that the horses in her care get the best care ever and a chance at a better life. She has seen many, many heartbreak stories, cases of neglected horses that make your hearts just cry. She tirelessly works through and keeps going to make the lives of these horses comfortable and their quality of life in the future to be free of future abuse. Jo is very passionate about this rescue and has put hours and hours of time, energy, blood, sweat and tears into every moment she spends with the horses. It is a rescue with complete and utter involvement coming from Jo and her staff of volunteers and advisers. I am a huge supporter of what she does and hope if you can help out in any way, through donations or even just letters of support to tell Jo what a great job she is doing and that her efforts are worth it, they are important, Please do! She is an unsung heroine and I admire her determination and dedication to the horses who are in her care.
Angel Acres was amazing, spoke to Jo Deibel about a sweet horse named Angel that was offered through there dollar program. Jo was 100% honest about the horse, she was contacted my references, etc to ensure Angel was going to a good home, she got me in contact with Angel's owner so both the owner and I were 100% certain that I was the right home for Angel. I truly wish there were more rescues run like Angel Acres. When I first met my new girl, Angel was EVERY THING I was told she was, she is absolutely wonderful and we love her so much. Thank you so Much Jo and Angel Acres for our sweet addition to our family and for making it a very painless process. I can not say enough wonderful things about this Rescue and Jo Deibel.
Excellent rescue. I can not say enough good things about them! A very dear friend of mine just adopted a beautiful mare from this rescue. This mare is exactly how they said she would be. "Angel" has been at our barn for two days and is already a barn favorite. Thank you so much for the work that you do.
I personally benefited from Maggie's legacy fund. Knowing others that have benefited as well, I know for a fact all money donated goes where it belongs. My horses may have suffered an unimaginable fate if i weren't for Angel Acres when I was out of work. They helped feed my large group from thousands of miles away when no one else was willing to help. She has donated her life to the horses and has nothing tangible to show for it, everything she does have is for the horses.
Excellent rescue. Worked with Angel Acres on the billboard campaign and found them very professional. All questions answered promptly and billboard was up in the timeframe given.
Love Angel Acres! They have helped place some awesome horses. They help people that are in a pinch keep their horses or get them ready to find a new home through Maddie's Legacy Fund. Jo, the owner, gave me some very helpful advice on selling my OTTB. The "Stop Slaughtering Us" billboard campaign has opened a lot of people's eyes to the horror of horse slaughter. They are AWESOME! Keep up the great work Angel Acres Horse Haven!
Jo Deibel and her wonderful volunteers go way above and beyond for these animals. Her entire days and nights involve caring for abused and neglected horses, giving them a warm, loving home. She is totally committed to saving horses and bringing them back to health. Angel Acres is the real deal.
I know Jo and the some of the people who help Angel Acres and all of them love the animals. Jo worries about every animal she has and hears about. Her main concern is the health, happiness and safety of all of the rescues. She works her but off caring and speaking up for all horses not to mention raising money to care for them. Thanks Angel Acres and Jo.

I have been around the horses that Jo rescues and seen the before and afters in many. What a difference, they look great after she has them for a while. Jo also has a trainer work with most of them. She keeps a very close eye on everything dealing with them. You can see how much she cares!
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. is a wonderful non-profit. It is apparent that they truly love animals and go above and beyond. There is no way anyone can count the hours spent taking care of animals. It goes beyond sun up to sun down. You fall exhausted into bed, catch a few winks of sleep, if you're lucky. If not you're up all night with an ill animal. This is love.
Love and caring of animals can't be faked. It's obvious Angel Acres love their charges, don't misuse or misappropriate anything. Angel Acres rocks.
Our family met Jo about 5 years ago when we adopted one of her horses. She interviewed and screened us thoroughly (as should anyone placing an animal) to see that we were a good match for the horse our daughter was interested in. The horse went on to excel in the Equitation, Hunter & Jumper rings, taking home many champion ribbons and even several regional awards. We continue to support Angel Acres financially and would not do so if we did not believe in the cause, and more importantly have total trust in their management of funds. If you question the authenticity of this post feel free to look up Foxglove's fan page on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Foxglove/170663082964372
It is amazing to me that some people have the nerve to put a pen in their hands or type out anything on a computer. I cannot believe that anyone would have taken the time to fabricate a nonsense negative story about Jo Diebel. Her wonderful work speaks for itself and anyone who has ever met her, been to her facility or watched the beginning and end results of the poor neglected, starved, beaten and almost murdered horses that she takes in and helps, knows that she's an Angel who does nothing but good.

Jo Deibel has the heart of an Angel and works very hard to rescue and properly care for horses who otherwise would have been murdered in one of those horific horse slaughter houses. I love horses, always have and her site caught my eye. It was obvious to me that she was real and serious and loved, rescued and cared for all animals. I live in Florida but went to PA to visit Angel Acres. I was even more impressed with the condition of the horses she had there and all she was trying to accomplish, and the extremely clean stalls. I think she's a pretty wonderful human being! Sincerely, Roberta Charest
I've been impressed with the work being done by Angel Acres. As someone who cannot do the direct work with horses I am appreciative of groups like this and I am always confident that help I give them will be put to the best possible use for the horses. I only wish there were many more groups like Angel Acres working on behalf of the horses to save them from slaughter.
I am beyond greatful for what Jo has been doing to help with saving horses from slaughter.
She humbly serves the people, and the last of the American wild horses, for which I could never thank her enough & am eternally greatful.
Thank you Jo & crew for your outstanding and most excellent service, from the bottom of my heart.
I have followed Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue for quite a while. While I am not in their area, I am truly interested in Horse Rescues from my area and follow what others do around the country. I can tell that these people have only the best intentions for the animals they rescue. So many are only out for a quick fix but these people really care. I am glad that they check out all persons interested in adoption and will weed out certain individuals that are not qualified to have the horses. The horses have already been abused, abandoned or just plain thrown away. I wish that all rescue organizations are like Angel Acres. If I lived closer, I would be one of their volunteers. Thank God for people like Jo. Thank you.
Jo Deibel and Angel Acres are at the forefront of the equine welfare movement in the United States. I am continually amazed by how much they achieve. I would heartily recommend this organization to any potential donor or sponsor.
I have followed Angel Acres for several years now. Being part of the horse rescue community, you meet many people with great hearts, but not a whole lot of business sense. Angel Acres is led by a team who is not only passionately committed to horse welfare, but run the organization with care, ethics and plain old business smarts.
The Executive Director, Jo Deibel, is always helping, sharing...WORKING...with others to help Angel Acres horses find forever, loving homes. You couldn't ask for better.
Jo Deibel does wonderul work rescuing horses. She has made miracles happen and has saved lives. I bet the "crazy Guy" posted this out of spite.
What can I say that others have not? I have known Jo Deibel for a couple of years now - though we have never met in person. Her efforts to truly save and rescue are unmatched. She is a constant force, as are the rest of her team. I remember getting a phone call from Jo Deibel telling me about a 13 year old OTTB that was saved from slaughter but then sent to New Bolton to be a drug horse. The hospital had no more need for him and wanted to put him down. Jo Deibel refused. Long story short - this lovable, saved from death twice, OTTB now lives with me and my wife and our QH herd. No one else seemed to care - Jo Deibel did and had him sent to us safe and sound on request.

I am a horse owner. I have placed my beloved pets with other family's who wanted them for various reasons. I know how hard it is to find the right person to give up a partner to when it's time to say 'Good Bye".
Dealing with angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, as a Facebook fan has been a pleasure. I know the hardships she is dealing with and the struggles that she has to go through as she puts her heart and passion to the test daily to bring these horses to a safe place, a safe home. When she posts about a need is is a request for feed, bedding or other equipment for the barn. She has posted about her cats, and their antics around the home and farm. She has posted horses in need, leveraging the power of viral networking to find potential homes for animals who can not do this for their self's.
If I ever need to place my 22 year old gelding, I pray that I will not need to, I would use this rescue. Through this organization I have learned more about the needs of horses. I never realized many of the things that have been brought to light from her posts regarding the slaughter industry.
I have known other people who rescue slaughter horses, we see the rags to riches stories at times. I have never known a horseman who has brought back so many horses with such sever starvation to full body and full health ever ... no not even my old vet. He said that it was not possible, I have seen the photographs of these horses, before and after.
This is a wonderful program and if Jo can do all this and still keep a profit ... more power to her! I doubt that this organization keeps 80% of her profits and if she did ... the proof is in the pudding ... She gets the job nobody else wants to do done.
FYI ... Jo ... I have seen the billboards and they look great!
Not really sure why the crazy guy invented those numbers. Pulled out of thin air.
The dedication these folks have shown trying to:
1. Educate about horse slaughter,
2. Educate about responsible adoption,
3. Save horses,
and
4. Place them RESPONSIBLY, so that they STAY PLACED
is nothing short of amazing.
Angel Acres made 197k in 2011 and only 32k went to caring for horses??? not even 20% of their entire budget was put toward their mission of saving horses from slaughter. i would recommend other programs that spend more horses on rescue if they are a horse rescue.

angelacreshorsehaven 02/23/2013
Hi, I don't know who you are nor have you had ANY contact or interaction with our rescue. Apparently you have ZERO idea how to read a 990 report do you? MORE THAN 92% of our cost went to CARING FOR THE HORSES, that means hay, feed, vet care, transportation, quarantine farm, farrier, training, boarding, etc. We also assist horses in need via Mattie's Legacy Fund and strive to raise awareness about horse slaughter via our billboard campaign (THOSE costs are NOT in the 2011 you are referencing because the program is new). EMAIL me and I will provide you our CPA reviewed statements - angelacreshorsehaven@yahoo.com Before trying to trash someone's reputation that has worked for FREE, all day, every single day, for the past decade try asking them a question. I'm messaging you as well. Jo Deibel

I have been following these folks on facebook for a long time. They do a fabulous job of rescuing horses and advocating strongly for horses.
Jo is an amazing person! I love what she does to help these animals in need :) I follow almost everything this rescue does and hope to volunteer or fostor one day :D
I have been following Angel Acres for a long time now. Their dedication to protect our horses through rescue, helping other horse owners in time of need and a national ( and Canada ) billboard campaign to end slaughter and much more are the signs of a true warrior. I have not had the pleasure of meeting Jo or visiting the farm, but I know how far they go and have come.
Jo Deibel has oaways been honest and runs a reputable rescue. i respect and admire her dedication and tenacity
My wife and I have had the pleasure of meeting Jo Diebel and have seen her rescue facility. She is one very hard working, dedicated and caring woman who is doing everything in her power to rescue, properly care for and find loving homes for poor horses who would have otherwise been brutally slaughtered at the hands of the vicious people who work at horse slaughter houses. She has taken in and brought back to health horses that were abused and left to die with no food or water. Her place is very clean, her horses are fed and been seen by a Vet and Ferrier. She gets NO financial assistance except donations from kind people who want to help put an end to this horrific practice. Obama just signed a bill to allow these horse slaughter houses into the US. I hope we ALL remember his mistakes when November voting gets here!!
Angel Acres may be based in Pennsylvania, but this organization's impact is felt nationwide. They are at the forefront of the fight to end horse slaughter in the U.S. -- working towards this goal with top notch rescue and rehoming efforts, a nationwide billboard campaign and tireless public outreach.
In the five+ years I've worked with Angel Acres, I've been impressed with their constant desire to improve and grow programs, innovative approach, and dedication to financial transperency. They always take the high road; have a long-term vision built on celebrating milestones and victories; and never forget to thank those who support the cause.
And, while other groups may send newsletters designed to tug at your heart strings with heartwrenching stories, Angel Acres President Jo Diebel has made a committment to telling the story of her organization with an upbeat spin. Whether it's a newsletter from the velvet nosed gang, a facebook update detailing a morning in the barn, or a personal thank you for a donation, Jo's positive attitude despite dealing with a very tough cause reflects her unique approach to making a difference.
A dollar given to Angel Acres, is always a dollar well-spent.
Simply put: Angel Acres is one of the most passionate organizations around! They are the boots on the ground when it comes to saving slaughter-bound horses. I appreciate their emphasis on responsible ownership and humane euthanasia. I've volunteered with causes all around the United States and will be happy to tell anyone that Jo and the Angel Acres crew are a great example of what happens when kindness is their mission. I wish I could volunteer there on a weekly basis...maybe someday.
I have been a supporter of Angel Acres, and have been following this awesome effort. Jo works tirelessly to save horses, and make their life as it should be. The daily communications concerning the trials and triumphs, sorrows and joys of her rescue, rehab and educational endeavors are testament to her life dedication to bettering the situation of American horses. Hundreds of horse are fed through the winter, because of her dedication to Maggie's Legacy. . The facility is haven to many horses who are enjoying the brighter tomorrow. We get to see the shared follow-ups of the many successful rescues, rehabs and placements. Thank you, Jo..for being the voice for these deserving horses. Thank you for taking selfless action on their behalf..Thank you for doing what many of us would love to do , using your unpaid time, day and night, and even your own family resources.
There are not to many rescues out there to save horses from slaughter for human consumption. This is a brutal ending for horses who devoted their lives to serving the humans who cared for them. It is the ultimate betrayal. I will continue to support this organization and Jo who does the most amazing work with not only saving horses, but getting the message out about the sad ending for these beautiful creatures.
I am very committed to stopping the slaughter of American Horses! I worked with Jo/Angel Acres in getting a billboard up in Missouri. If not for her dream I could not achieve mine.
Jo is an upfront, kind, articulate advocate for our Equines. Her mission is not only to save some from the slaughter houses but also to go beyond that and stop the practice altogether. I adore working with, talking to her and backing all that she does with my words and my money ! ! So in my opinion SHE ROCKS ! ! ! !

Jo Deible is an "angel" for the welfare of horses. There are a lot of differences in rescues and on a scale of 1-10 she would get a 10+ from me. No one can understand her level of comittment it takes to keep her rescue going at top notch if they do not care enough to learn all the facts. Anyone that would give this wonderful rescue anything but 5 stars is in dire need of an education. I don't know of too many people that would work 24/7 with no monetary gain. The funds that are donated for her rescue are used that purpose only. Shame on anyone that says she is in it for the money. If she was paid for her services she would deserve a 6 figure income but she take nothing!
Review from Guidestar
If you care about horse welfare and If you care about sopping slaughter, this is where you put your donations. They are doing more to bring awareness to the country than all the organizations put together. They are totally committed to stopping the slaughter of our horses. It isn't a job for them, it is a passion and dedication. They are always professional and get results.
Angel Acres is one of the most professional programs I have had the pleasure to deal with. Thank yous were prompt and I have been kept informed about how my donation is being used. I would not think twice about donating again. Their mission is clearly stated and they stick to it. It is clear that their leader Jo truly cares about the welfare of horses. Angel Acres is the real deal.
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, is fully committed to saving horses from entering the slaughter pipeline. They are one of the very few rescues actually certified and as meet all the requirement s established. They retrain, rehab and rehome abandonded, neglectd or at risk horses and help turn them into very productive and much loved companions. Angel Acres truly believes in their mission of making slaughter illegal in the US and the transport of horses for slaughter illegal. they have started an amazing educational campaign with billboards going up in over 20 states to date, with a goal of all 50 states. These billboards then lead you to a very educational website which informs the general public on the horrors of horse slaughter and how they can help eradicate it in the US.
This is a fantastic group working on creative solutions to protect equines from neglect, abuse and slaughter. They go above and beyond traditional horse rescue and address some of the challenges causing neglect and abuse.
I'm hugely grateful to organizations that work as hard as Angel Acres in all they do. I'm thankful for what they do to educate the public as well as the rescue work that I personally know is very demanding and sometimes takes a toll on the human spirit. Thank you Angel Acres.
I have been involved in horse rescue for many years and have seen a lot of people get involved with big hearts, but no common sense or ability to balance a checkbook. Jo is NOT one of those people. She has been able to consistently run her rescue like a well-run business, ensuring that every animal she takes in receives 100% of the care and training it needs. Once a horse is at her facility, you know that it is truly safe and will not be in danger of going without feed because she has taken in more than she can care for. One reason Jo's rescue works so well is that she does a great deal of work personally, everything from hauling horses to mucking stalls. It is hard to imagine the boards of some of the larger Thoroughbred rescues picking up a manure fork - unfortunately, they are much more removed from the horses and their care and that has resulted in some news stories this year of horses starving while board members collected a large salary. That will never happen at AAHHR, where Jo personally works tirelessly all day to restore horses to health, fix training issues and make sure she is transforming a horse from an "unwanted" horse to a horse that is ready to go win at the shows, as most of hers do. An AAHHR horse has received an education that makes him highly desired in the horse world and very unlikely to fall into a bad situation ever again. This combination of rehab and training is the ideal in the horse rescue world, and the fact that AAHHR was able to pass GFAS' extremely strict standards and become accredited speaks for itself. If you are looking to donate to a rescue that puts your money into the horses, not the principals' pockets, AAHHR is one of the best choices you can make. And if you are looking for a show quality Thoroughbred but would rather rescue than buy, head on over!
Jo has been such an inspriring and tireless advocate for horses...Her grass roots efforts have stretched from coast to coast. This rescue is taking steps farther than rescuing horses (which they also do)....they are educating America that WE ARE KILLING 100,000 HORSES ANNUALLY. They are accomplishing goals that the big whigs aren't able to....
When horse slaughter ends in the US...look to AAHHR as having a large part in it!
Jo has put her heart and soul into making Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue the best it can be. She spends hours every day caring for the horses, seeking ways to help more horses, identifying new ways to fund the rescue, providing information to her volunteers, sponsors and donors and helping other rescues reach the similar level of commitment that she has established over the last several years. We often forget how hard it is to meet the day to day needs of these animals when the weather is horrendous and the facilities break down, which they invariably do. Still, Jo and the volunteers that have become her mainstay continue to give unselfishly of themselves to make sure that the horses in their care receive the best possible treatment and move on whenever possible to new, loving homes.
You can't find anyone more dedicated to their work than Jo! She is very passionate about saving horses and raising awareness about horse slaughter. Not only do the volunteers and staff care about horses, they also take pride in helping any animal in need. It's such a wonderful thing they are doing and all of their hard work pays off in the end! Way to Go Gang!
I have to say from personal experience that AAHHR does everything for the horses with the highest standards possible. Jo devotes every waking hour of her time (without a paycheck) to give these animals every possible chance they can have to have a happy and healthy life. She has been GFAS accredited which is no easy task. GFAS credidation speaks quality care which I have seen it first hand.
I support Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue whole heartedly. What they do to help the horses is awesome and if I lived closer I would do so much more to help them. I admire and fully agree with their anti-horse slaughter views, too and wish more people would sit up and listen to us.
I have contributed to Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue because I'm so impressed with the amazing work they do rescuing and placing horses in loving homes. I love to follow them on Facebook and see the heartwarming stories of placement of these horses with their families and the followup photos and reports of how they are doing afterwards. I also enjoy the photos and stories of all the other critters on their ranch.
I have had the pleasure of following AA for a long time. I have gotten to know Jo Deibel personally, and have found her to be not only dedicated beyond belief, but hard working, passionate about her cause and one of the most honest people I've ever known. Jo does it the right way - keeps the focus on the horses and on the mission, and leaves the drama behind. Jo has no time for drama, she is too busy saving horses and spreading the anti slaughter message. I am proud to know her, and to help, in some small way, to further her efforts. Go Jo!
I've been following Angel Acres on facebook and love what they are doing. It's a great thing. I love to see all the happy stories and the differences they are making in peoples lives and most importantly, the horses!
I have been volunteering for Angel Acres for over a year now and I have see amazing changes in the horses that were saved from slaughter, abuse, and abandonment. They go out of their way to help as many horses in need as they can. I will continue volunteering for Angel Acres in the future because I know they are doing their best to make our country a better place for animals of all kinds.
Angel Acres does so much to save the horses, how could anyone that loves animals not support them in any way that they can.
I have followed Angel Acres for about 5 to 6 years now and I must say that they go above and beyond to help as many horses as they can. Plus a few kittens and a baby groundhog! Jo Diebel has heart for the horses, her passion shines thru with all that she does and also all of the volunteers.
They care about finding the right homes for each horse, not just a home. he horses go thru rehab if needed and training. #1 horse rescue in my book!!!
Angel Acres does a wonderful job rescuing horses, rehabilitating and training them, and carefully matching them to new homes where they can lead happy, productive lives. In my time training horses for the rescue, I have seen a number of wonderful horses find homes where they go on to fruitful second careers, from everything from trail riding to winning at shows. They work hard to match horses and riders to ensure that everyone is happy, and they give numerous horses a chance at life that they may not have otherwise been granted.
I have been involved with Angel Acres over the past few years as a Donor and they have been very productive and efficient in saving America's horses from becoming victims of slaughter. Over the years, Angel Acres has been able to rapidly grow their organization by using different methods of getting their message across to the public (billboards, fundraisers, etc). They have also been able to build a large community of donors and volunteers to help spread the word and educate the public on the horse slaughter industry.
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue does incredible work. I donate to them every chance I get and I even sponspor a horse monthly. I trust this rescue and I know that my money is being used wisely and for what it is intended for, the horses. I am so impressed with this rescue and the work they do that I really am speechless about it. Jo Deibel is excellent and personally responds to each sponsor/donor and I have been impressed with her integrity, thoughtfulness and accountability since day one. She lives and breathes this cause in my opinion and the horses are so lucky to have her. This rescue not only saves horses from slaughter and rehomes them, they also are doing everything possible to educate the public about horse slaughter using non-graphic billboards and brochures and they also help people who currently own horses to keep their horses if they are having trouble. This rescue is the only rescue I have found with a multi-faceted approach to saving the horses. There are also numerous ways to contribute to Angel Acres such as donating to the hay fund, sponsoring a horse, contributing to the billboard campaign for education, using their interactive wish list to buy supplies they need, volunteering time, and so much more including just speading the message through word of mouth. Check out their website, it is a wealth of information of things you can do to support them and their cause, some of which do not require a financial donation if you are short on funds. And one of the best parts is irregardless of what you do to help, Jo appreciates everything no matter how big or small. She has a huge heart and when she says something I trust her like she is a member of my family. All the work she does is truly for the horses. I am about to start volunteering there in a few days and am looking forward to working with her on this cause. I only wish I could do more to support her and Angel Acres because this is a cause that deserves all the support they can get.
Wonderful rescue. I got involved with Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue when I saw a post on fb. I have donated to Matties fund, Billboads to stop and educate people about horse slaughter. They put all their energy and heart into rescuing horses from kill pens and abusive conditions. They never seem to tire of the hard work and dedication that it takes to do what they do every day. Then don't give up untill that rescued horse is nursed back to health and has found a loving forever home. I'm proud to donate and be a part of this rescue.
I have been involved in horse (animal) rescue for over 10 years. During a particularly "hairy" period of time, when some horse rescues have been found to be fraudulent and/or "brokers", Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue has maintained they're integrity. I am pleased to count them as a resource for the backyard rescue we often do here, taking in one or two animals in need at a time. I proudly donate to them, and if I weren't across the country would love to be more involved as a volunteer,
I'm the Deputy Director-Equine for the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and have been working with Jo on a professional level for several years. Her standards among the highest in animal welfare for both animal care and operating a non-profit. Her work ethic is so intense sometimes I think she must have figured out how to post updates on Facebook in her sleep. She deals with very ugly situations of animal cruelty and the horse slaughter issue but focuses on the positive and celebrates successes in her updates. She uses her sense of humor and storytelling to help us feel like we're all a part of the work of Angel Acres-like when the wheel fell off the tractor and when the tractor caught fire. The stories let her supporters know that she had a need (a new tractor) without sounding desperate and helpless. I think that resilience and positive outlook is what her supporters find so admirable. As a former grantmaker, I always had confidence that if Jo was awarded a grant, that every penny would be accounted for and would be spent in accordance with the grant terms explicitly and if there were any challenges, she would check in with us before making any modifications. And now that I'm not working as a grantmaker but hear from her about her management of the grants she currently has, I am even more confident of her integrity towards those funders. This is one organization that has my complete vote of confidence!
Angel Acres is a wonderful organization that I have gotten to know in the past year. They are very dedicated to the animals in their care. In addition, their campaign against horse slaughter, led by Angel Acres' president and founder, Jo Deibel, is helping horses all across the country. Her passion and love for horses is inspiring and she is not only an advocate for horses but also an educator. I am looking forward to following and supporting Angel Acres in the years to come.
Angel Acres is an amazing rescue. I admire anyone that quits there job to do something that they are passionate about and then does a wonderful job! I wish that I lived closer so that I could help more often. I donate to this rescue on occasion for now. I love that they rescue horses bound for slaughter and place them with a forever home.
If Angels are here on earth, than truly all the people at Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue have their wings. They are hard working members of a team whose only goal is to show these magnificent creatures what affection and compassion is all about (as well as any other animals who show up). They inspire others to want to give anything they can to the cause and they always make sure to keep us advised on the many different projects to help raise awareness and so that others can be more proactive. Even with everything they have going on, they always take the time to keep the general public advised of the day to day goings on or issues that need to be known or better yet the examples of all the good they have done to help a horse (or owner) in need. I hope to one day be apart of such an amazing organization.
Angel Acres Horse rescue is a vital part of saving horses from slaughter. They devote their lives not just some time into this effort and they do it with such love and compassion for horses and all animals. Jo and ALL involved in the quest are doing an awesome job. They are up before the sun and seldom in bed before midnight. They do an outstanding job and deserve all the help and support that can be given. I applaud their efforts and will continue to help them in any way I can.
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue is one of the best organizations I have ever seen in action. They have rescued so many horses and in turn, rescued so many people. People need a cause to believe in, one that is run with honesty and integrity and Angel Acres is all of that and more - putting the welfare of the horses above all else.
I found out that Angel Acres rescued a thoroughbred mare that I had taken care of years ago when she was only a youngster. She is now in her 20s and one of Angel Acres volunteers has her in retirement. I went to see her and she looked wonderful and happy. Thank you to Jo Deibel and her gang for dedicating her life to helping these wonderful animals.
I have never seen a more reliable and conscientious rescue group. This rescue is run with the highest standards, and they are very dedicated to their mission. I would have no problem recommending them to anyone.
I was asked for a donation of EquiJEM Originals polo wraps, for their auction last year. I was more than happy to donate, since I knew the polo wraps would sell well for them, and help raise money for the GREAT work that they do! The wraps are always a big hit, since I make them in a WIDE variety of AWESOME prints!!!
Angel Acres has an important role in our world. They help educate the uninformed on horse care and the plight of horses who are homeless. In addition they help others and are a thriving rescue in the realm of the rescue world where many rescues are folding and closing their doors due to lack of funds and commitments by supporters, Angel Acres has a proven record of maintaining and continuing to get and keep support to futher the welfare of horses...... I am proud to be a friend of Angel Acres and hope that you will educate yourself on the good they do and get involved every dollar and every prayer for the horses is good......please check out the website, facebook page or contact them directly. thanks for being there......you rock Jo.....
I have volunteered with Angel Acres for the past several years and have watched the excellent care they provide to the animals. I have witnessed the great lengths that the volunteers go to to make sure that the horses are well cared for, that their waterers are always clean, their is always hay available, that stalls are mucked and picked daily, that no manure is stored on the property, that all horses are groomed and inspected each morning first and throughout the day. They take excellent care of the horses, as if they were their children. Many are up for adoption, some are being trained for adoption and all are loved until their new homes are found.
Angel Acres Gives and Gives and then Gives some more. I wish I lived closer and could actually volunteer at this wonderful rescue, but for now all I can do is donate when I get some extra cash. Jo and her gang are passionate about the well-being of horses, stopping horse slaughter and making people aware of what is actually going on and at times takes a lot of heat from angry people, she never backs down and continues her fight, she is an inspiration and has a heart of gold, not only for the horses but for any living creature! One look at her website and some of her before and after pictures of the horses she takes in and you will realize she is the real deal and deserves so much credit for making this world a better place! Angel Acres Horse Rescue, Inc. ROCKS!!
I live in Australia and i donate to Angel Acres Horse Rescue. The welfare of all animals is important to me, no animal should have to face inhumane treatment regardless of where they are in the world. I get enjoyment knowing that my donated funds have gone towards hay, farrier care and horse rescue. I hope the next time you see a Stop Slaughtering us billboard that you take the time to visit the website and then you will understand what a great job Angel Acres is doing!
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the sole purpose of strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries in the United States and abroad. GFAS was founded in 2007 by animal protection leaders representing top leadership from Born Free USA, The Humane Society of the United States, World Society for the Protection of Animals, American Anti-Vivisection Society, and International Fund for Animal Welfare, now joined by National Anti-Vivisection Society. These founding leaders sit on the GFAS Board of Directors to continue guiding the organization’s work in a collaborative manner. I serve as executive director.
One of the main focuses of GFAS is accrediting animal sanctuaries/rescues. To become accredited, each organization has to meet operational standards covering governing authority, finance, guidelines, education and outreach, staffing, physical facilities, security/safety, and the veterinary medical program. In addition, the sanctuary/rescue must meet rigorous standards regarding animal care, confirmed in a site visit. It is a demanding process, but in the end, it is a highly meaningful stamp of approval to guide donors and those with animals in need.
Angel Acres was one of the first equine sanctuaries to become accredited. We set the bar high, and our expectations were met and exceeded! I am extremely proud to state that Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue is fully accredited by GFAS and one our shining stars.
Angel Acres is a fantastic rescue! I do not hesitate to donate extra $ when I have it, I know it will be put to good use.
I adopted a horse from them 6 mos ago, he is everything they said he would be. I contacted Jo about another horse a few week's ago, she told me the horse I was interested in was not a good match for us (we needed beginner friendly horse) but she said she had another one that would be perfect for us. I am very anxiously waiting his arrival.
My mother teased when I was going through the adoption process the 1st time ( vet, farrier, personal reference's etc...) she said your going through all that for a horse. I love that I had to do "all that for a horse". It show's that alot of thought and care goes into picking a proper home for every horse. I will never get another horse from anywhere else.
Brandy Laucks
very happy adopter/ donator
I am the property / maintenance volunteer manager for the rescue. This is a hard working group of folks striving to do the very best job possible with minimal resources. The horses are fat, happy and healthy and are matched with the best possible adopters.
I have learned one should NEVER make judgements about other people, period. Any one who knows Jo knows how devoted and selfless she is in her mission to save horses from unnecessary slaughter. I can speak from my heart as I adopted a horse from her two years ago. She not only gets the horses that come into her care to date on their vaccinations, teeth, and feet, she also begins retraining with these animals. This is not something that happens overnight-it takes alot of effort and dedication and TIME and MONEY. She is one of the most tireless and driven people I have ever met. In my opinion, we need more people like Jo in this world. Whoever wrote that horrible review obviously is uneducated at best and is just a hurtful and mean individual. I feel sorry for people like that-if they spent more time like Jo does on doing good instead of being critical, the world would be a better place. Andi and Dancer
Jo and everyone at Angel Acres are some of the most helpful people I have come across in rescue. They are all about the horses and educating the public about abuse, neglect and most of all slaughter!
As another person running a rescue facility I give Jo kudos for never hesitating to assist us at any time. I can truly say that Jo has steered us in the right direction of how to properly run a rescue and for that we are very grateful!! THANK YOU JO :)
this is a great charity....she does great work educating the public on horse slaughter...and helping to save horses lives one at a time,..if i lived closer id adopt a horse from her....
Review from Guidestar
Angel Acres is an amazing horse rescue. Jo does everything she can to help the horses in her care. She is very active, not only in rescuing and placing the horses, but also in raising awareness about horse slaughter and how it is NOT humane euthanasia. Not only how it isnt humane for the horses, but it is not safe for the people because of all the medications horses get routinely. Horses are not bred specifically for slaughter so it is virtually impossible to find a horse who has not had bute or some other meds at some point in their lives. These medications can cause cancer and other illnesses in humans so she is looking out for the people of the world as well as the animals. Jo is constantly raising money to help not only rescue horses and raise awareness, but also to help struggling horse owners keep and properly care for their horses during tough financial times. Angel acres is an amazing rescue and you know that your money is going towards the helping the horses of the world have a better future.
Review from Guidestar
I have known Jo for many years now, she is a wonderful person & works tirelessly to help many horses. Jo supports other rescues as well. Not sure where this person has gotten their information. Actually sounds like maybe someone who has a personal vendetta towards Jo & Angel Acres in my opinion. The Anti-Slaughter billboard campaign will undoubtedly help TONS of horses all over our country. The billboards will help spread the word that horse slaughter is in no way humane or acceptable on so many levels. I support several rescues & respect Jo's opinion on many of them! People should know the facts before accusing Angel Acres of any wrong doing. On another note horse adoption fees are based on the horses ability to perform in the future. The adoption fees help rescue other horses in need. Angel Acres adopts out many horses for $1 when they have special needs. I am a firm believer in if you can't afford to pay a reasonable amount to adopt a horse then you probably can't afford to keep a horse!!
I actually think the billboard campaign by Angel Acres is a well thought out one, to reach the eyes and subsequently ears of those who really are unaware of either the huge amount of horses that go for slaughter for human consumption or do not seem to particularly care because they dont know about the reality of the process .
How else do you reach those people that would care but just dont know, and believe me a lot dont.?
Regarding the price of the horses, something is only ever worth what someone will give you for it. It costs to rescue anything , there is no such thing as a free lunch, If people are paying for those horses at that price, they are happy too, they have agreed and handed over the money, the rescue is happy as it gives them further funds to rescue horses or promote their ideas on stopping horse slaughter. If you dont like it, heck dont buy it, but many people do see the good and do donate. But this rescue is hardly hiding anything, you can see and read the politics for yourself, follow it up and then decide.
Its refreshing to see this rescue taking a different slant on horse rescue, which is about stopping the horses getting into the kill pens, slaughter trucks and enabling the dealers to make more money, before it happens and making people aware of just what is going on.
Whilst the previous poster is entitled to his or her opinion , that entitlement also enables him/her to donate with his feet where and how he pleases. Critisism in the right way can serve to improve any situation, but negativity will just draw negativity.
I have been following Angel Acres on FB since I started on FB. I think that Jo is a wonderful woman who has the guts to tell it like it is!! You either love horses or you don't but what you should do before writing a review is watch a horse being slaughtered!! This was on Sixty Minutes once and I left the room crying!! Jo probably has a full house right now and she won't let a horse go to just anyone, which makes me respect her even more. Those billboards are needed. For some reason the senator or reps in Nebraska seem to think we need to slaughter horses in the US again!! Of course one of them has a direct interest in this because he and his family sorry for the pun will make a killing from it. Besides horses are given meds that are in their muscles/tissues which are not met for human consumption. I try to donate to her when I can,if I lived closer I'm would be there helping as much as possible and I can't ride at this time due to major back problems!! Please before you review someone in the future do a little research 1st. Oh and one question,Would you eat horsemeat?
Review from Guidestar
This rescue's activies are disgusting! They only have a couple of horses in their care and they seem more interested in soliciting funds to put billboards up then actually helping horses. Their adoption prices are deplorable also! Most rescues charge between 5-700 for horses but their prices go into the thousands!
It's all about the publicity for them so they can get funds. With all the monies coming in they should do more to help more horses.

I haven't been to this rescue myself as we are many miles apart - but I met Jo online on Facebook and we have shared a lot of news, tips, rescues and ideas. When we took in a starving off the track Thoroughbred in December of 2010, this rescue sent us money for his care. There is nothing but great to say about this charity...in my opinion and if you do your research, you will see the truth. Thank you Angel Acres for all you do for the horses. Clairese Austin, Ex. Angel Acres is a GFAS accredited rescue that is dedicated to rescuing slaughter-bound horses and horses suffering from abuse/neglect. I have been volunteering at Angel Acres for about a year and a half and although I'm now away at college, I still help out whenever I can. Jo runs a wonderful rescue and practices everything she preaches, so to speak. She loves what she does despite all the hardships such as what happened with Prince, a starvation case that couldn't pull through. Jo does her best to spread the word about the inhumanity of horse slaughter and her actions and rescue greatly impact the unfortunate situation. Her effort is a noble one and we all try to aid her in anyway we can as well as encourage others to assist, even in the simplest ways, as well.
I have followed Angel Acres for appx. four years now. They do their best to spread the word about horse slaughter and over breeding of horses. They are an organization that can be trusted and I have donated my money to them.
Angel Acres donations go to the horses and the more support that they receive the more horses can be helped that are in need.
They have worked hard to get where they are today and I would suggest them to others.
I volunteer with Angel Acres and have for 4 years. I help assist getting the word out about slaughter bound horses and the horrendous act of horse slaughter. In addition, I collect feed labels from certain types of feed. When they are turned in the rescue gets money. One can help Angel Acres even if you do not live close by. For example the feed label program works all over the country. Just mail the labels to the rescue. This is a HUGE fundraiser. Also, we have folks that ask for donations for the rescue in lieu of bday gifts. So generous. The horses at the rescue are a HUGE part of the rescue however volunteering can be done from any state. I personally have dedicated myself to this org helping to stop horse slaughter and helping neglected and abused horses. I also especially appreciate that they are accredited by GFAS (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) and are one of only 5 horse rescues in the US with this accrediation. That means your money is going to help the horses!!! Way too many rescues out there now are scamming people when they donate and the horses suffer as a result. Kudos to the work Jo Deibel does- please step up and help!!
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc is dedicated to saving horses that are bound to be slaughtered for human consumption. They also rescue horses in abuse cases. They were the second equine rescue to be GFAS Accredited. They run an excellent facility, the animals are well taken care of and they are kind to people and animals.
