Mission: Our mission is "to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling. " in hostels and education programs, we bring together people from diverse backgrounds to create relationships and dialogue that improve cultural understanding and create a more tolerant world.
Programs: Hostel services & programs: ayh provides a network of more than 55 hostels nationwide, where each year we host travelers from more than 100 countries and more than 1 million overnights annually. Our hostels are specifically designed to promote social interaction and experiential learning, with communal environments that foster connection and conversation. Hostel programs also facilitate interaction amongst people from diverse backgrounds. As travelers get to know each other, they are discovering their similarities and their differences, breaking down stereotypes and social barriers, expanding world views, and creating a more tolerant world.
education & engagement programs: ayh delivers education and engagement programs in ayh hostels and local communities across the usa to create a dynamic community of global citizens who have the wisdom and humanity to actively make the world a better place. Program outcomes are aligned with the value rubrics created by the american association of colleges and universities (aacu) in the disciplines of intercultural communication, civic engagement and global citizenship. Each year, more than 100,000 people participate in ayh programs nationwide.
membership services: ayh has nearly 40,000 members with access to hostels, programs and information services. More than 4,000 hostels worldwide, including more than 50 in the usa, are accessible to ayh members. Education and engagement programs, volunteer opportunities are offered to ayh members across the usa. Information services include domestic and international travel resources, travel discounts, and online publications.
