Mission: Our mission is "to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hosteling. " in our hostel services and programs, we bring together people from diverse backgrounds to create relationships and dialogue that improve cultural understanding and create a more tolerant world.
Programs: Hostel services & programs: ayh-san diego hosts travelers frommore than 50 countries and more than 22,000 overnights annually. The hostel is specifically designed to promote social interactionand experiential learning, with communal environments that fosterconnection and conversation. Hostel programs also facilitateinteraction amongst people from diverse backgrounds. As travelersget to know each another, they are discovering their similaritiesand their differences, breaking down stereotypes and socialbarriers, expanding world views, and creating a more tolerantworld.
education & engagement programs: ayh-san diego delivers educationand engagement programs to scouting groups, visiting travelers,community members, and university students from the greater sandiego area. In addition to hosting an annual peace buildingconference, cultural education programs teach open-mindedness andrespect for different cultures to community members and visitingtravelers. Program outcomes are aligned with the value rubricscreated by the american association of colleges and universities(aacu) in the disciplines of intercultural communication, civicengagement and global citizenship.
