I have been fortunate to work with this chapter of the American Red Cross (ARC) as a volunteer for 9-years. My participation over the years has been as a:
- greeter and canteen server at the at the Blood Center on University Drive
- driver for dialysis patients to their treatments centers (One to two Saturday mornings a month)
- Blood Drive representative offsite from the Blood Center (at churches, businesses, schools, etc.)
- Disaster Action Team (DAT) member (trained Red Cross workers sent to the scene of a disaster to provide immediate disaster relief to those affected by disaster and to emergency workers responding to the incident: tornados, hurricanes, floods, fires, etc.)
- Wrapper at Christmas time at Barnes & Nobel to raise funds
- Representative at the North Carolina State Fair selling t-shirts to raise funds
- Representative at a Durham City Council Meeting (just once, but it was so interesting)
ARC does so much locally, nationally, and internationally. I feel very privileged to be a part of this Non-Profit organization.
