If there’s one organisation that makes you feel every emotion, Lola ya Bonobo is it. From feeling the rescue of a poorly orphaned baby to the fun of the jumping babies on the trampoline, you can’t help but love both the bonobos and the surrogate mamas equally. Bonobos represent peace through love, sharing, nurturing and solving problems without fighting. The existence and exposure of this sanctuary has brought all of the wonderment of these apes into our lives, what could be more important right now?
I am interested in primates and, through the writings of Frans de Waal, I learned about bonobos. This charity works to preserve bonobos and their environments in a world where they are endangered, an activity of great value. It also educates people about bonobos in a variety of ways. On Ape Giving Day, I chose this charity along with Tacugama and an Orangutan charity as recipients of the money I am able to donate. I follow them on Instagram in order to learn more.

Thank you for your support! It means the world to us.
Seeing the amazing good people can do for this earth, our wildlife and these wonderful bonobos is so uplifting and should be a great example for other organisations. Preserve. Save. Support.
Sincerest thanks to the people running this outstanding organisation xxx❤️
Since learning about Bonobos my eyes have been opened to the evolutionary journey of hominids… Lola Ya Bonobo Sanctuary are doing a fantastic job of protecting our close relatives.
Lola ya Bonobo is doing incredible work to protect bonobos and their rainforest home. Their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rewild endangered bonobos orphaned by the illegal wildlife trade is both inspiring and essential for conservation. The organization provides much-needed care for these vulnerable animals, offering sanctuary for as long as needed before releasing them back into the wild whenever possible.
They work hand-in-hand with Congolese communities to protect bonobo habitats, tackling the root causes of deforestation and ensuring long-term sustainability.
Highly recommended!
I went to Lola ya bonobo in april. The work of the sanctuary IS exceptional and the teams are dedicated to the well being of the Bonobos. My heart stayed there and I'm going back next year
I've been a monthly supporter for YEARS! Why? I was actually fortunate enough to visit Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary in 2005 when I was on a business trip to Kinshasa. I can tell you from personal experience of the amazing work they do. From educating and working with the local communities to ensure the preservation of this unique species to the critical care and rehabilitation/re-introduction to the wild of rescues. They utilize every penny wisely. I get updates and reports that prove to me that they continue to do so! More than any other organization that I support!
Friends of bonobos is a great organization that really work to save the bonobos and also empowers the local community through education, which is one of the most important aspect of the protection of this endangered species.
Meeting Claudine Andre today at the Columbus Zoo, and hearing her powerful passion to save our bonobos, was life changing! We are now supporters for life! Mind blown!

Thank you - you're incredible!
Friends of Bonobos is a charity that embodies the kindness of bonobos.

We love your passion for bonobos! Thanks for everything you do on their behalf.
I have been both a fundraiser and regular donor for Friends of Bonobos and they are a friendly, competent and trust worthy charity. While fundraising the communication with them was helpful and supportive, and their regular newsletters really keep supporters informed of the great work they do. I'm so proud to support this wonderful charity and the fantastic work they do!
Any organization that is for, and protects wildlife or assists in their conservation - is a very noble mission and undertaking. In helping to protect and conserve these gentle, endangered Bonobos, "Friends of Bonobos" is doing a great, honorable mission.
One of the most loving and devoted, dedicated and passionate organizations EVER! They do what they say they will do and save bonobos. Truly wonderful people with a wonderful mission!
Friends of Bonobos and Lola ya Bonobo together do a fantastic and vital work for the preservation and rehabilitation bonobos, humans closest relatives. Bonobos are such wonderful creatures, caring, smart, true, interesting and interested, sadly threatened by human activity. Just looking at bonobos interactions restores one’s fractured faith in the present times. Great work advocating for the cause of bonobos.
I feel very passionate about helping these beautiful Bonobos . I love how they are cared for with their surrogate mamas.
Lola ya Bonobos is a incredible organization that takes wonderful care of bonobos. It’s one of the few that is dedicated to bonobos. These are majestic great apes that are endangered. Friends of Bonobos takes in orphaned bonobos & rehabilitates them so they can be released into a semi-wild habitat.
I’m proud to support the work they do.
Lola Ya Bonobo is a wonderful group of people doing the vitally important work of protecting and rehabilitating the endangered bonobo, a fascinating creature in its own right and also our closest human relative deserving of our full support.
The work you’re doing is priceless! Your initiative to develop a special bond with bonobos as well as incorporate an educational approach is what makes Lola ya Bonobo so beautiful.
I was motivated by the story of Claudine Andre and learning about Friends of Bonobos, the surrogate mamas and the extensive support system. Bonobos are an essential part of life and should be cherished and saved!
Bonobos are highly intelligent yet so vulnerable. We have a responsibility to protect them and their home. Friends of Bonobos provide inspiration, hope, superb care and leadership, often under very difficult conditions.
I’m fascinated by how much we humans share with bonobos. Their affectionate and playful way of life is a delight to learn about. Friends of Bonobos provides really helpful and fun educational content, and I’m happy to support their work to improve the present and give hope for the future of our precious cousins.

Bonobos are so easy to love, and the challenge is to keep raising awareness. This organization does an excellent job getting the message out on social media and through videos. They also recognize that the future of bonobos is connected to the future of the Congolese people, so a critical part of their work consists of education and community building projects. I’m so grateful to keep on learning about bonobos - they make me want to be a better human by being more like them!

You're so kind and all of us at FOB are happy to know we're inspiring you - thank you!
Friends of Bonobos are a wonderful nonprofit. Educating about the plight and importance of the Bonobo, only found in Democratic of Republic. Their support and engagement of people living in and around Bonobo habitat is essential to the Bonobo’s future survival. The role they play in rehabilitating and even returning orphaned Bonobos to the wild is heartwarming.
This is such a fantastic group of people. They do work that is critically important for bonobos in that they rescue them when required, they care for them and teach them survival skills, and ultimately release them with those skills so that they can live a natural life.
I've loved this non-profit for over 10 years now. Not only are they the only bonobo sanctuary in the world, but they also work to help the local communities in the DRC. They've built schools for children and they work hard to include the local people in their conservation efforts, which I think is key to helping any species survive. Also, they don't only provide a sanctuary to bonbos who can't survive on their own in the wild, but they work hard to teach the orphaned bonobos how to live and forage in the jungles and they've successfully reintroduced bonobos back into the wild who went on to having babies of their own, which is amazing! - a true conservation success! On top of their local efforts they work with scientists all over the world help us better understand not only bonobos, but also our own evolutionary roots and how we can turn to cooperation instead of violence to fix societal issues. The organization is truly an inspiration and one of the coolest parts is that you can actually go there and meet some of the bonobos and caretakers!
I love Lola ya Bonobo because they are the only bonobo refuge in the world. The only ones engaged in the preservation of this Apes still little known by many.
In their sanctuary, orphaned bonobos are rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, rehabilitated and released into the wild. In addition, their approach is broad ranging from protecting the bonobo's home forests to working with communities and government to address the root causes of bonobo endangerment, while empowering people to protect these endangered creatures both locally and globally. THANK YOU LOLA YA BONOBO PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
I have been following Friends of Bonobos for the better part of a year on social media and through news outlets. Over this past year, FoB has made momentous steps in the conservation of Bonobos. From their strong (and very entertaining) social media presence to the rewilding of 14 Bonobos in the Ekolo Reservation, FoB has shown they are serious and passionate about the protection of Endangered species and environmental conservation.

Thank you!
A fantastic nonprofit bringing a little know species to the attention of the world. They tirelessly educate and advocate for bonobos. They are also very transparent about their spending and their work which inspires confidence when it comes to donating. They are true changemakers and should be celebrated.

Ariel Rogers 09/02/2022
We appreciate your support - thank you!
Yola ya Bonobo and Friends of Bonobos care deeply for the bonobo species and provide rehabilitative care, long-term care for those in need of it and release to the wild for those who can do that. They also reach out to the community, educating children and adults about the bonobo, about ecosystems and about finding a way to make it all work together.

Read moreI love watching their videos on Instagram, the bonobos are too cute. Before I found their insta, I had no idea they only existed in one place and it's nice to see this sanctuary working hard to persevere the bonobos and their habit.
This organization is truly excellent. Much like the beautiful creatures they are helping to save, the bonobos, Friends of Bonobos are kind, wholesome, and do amazing work in preservation. I’ve donated to them as much as I could financially and will continue to do so. I don’t ask for anything in return, as I truly just want to help save these animals, but one time they sent a bonobo plush and a handwritten letter saying thank you. I keep them both on my nightstand. Everyone should know about bonobos and Friends of Bonobos!
This organization is performing a fantastic job with bonobos, a very endangered species and our close cousin: not only do they save their lives, provide personalized night and day motherly support to orphans, but they prepare them for a return to freedom, in a well protected environment totally adapted to their species and way of life. This really is not an easy task: but their excellent knowledge and caring approach is achieving fabulous results. Please give them all the support they , and the bonobos truly need and deserve!
The work of the people in this nonprofit is truly magnificient. They not only strive to protect and care for the greatly under threat Bonobos. They also play a vital role in educating people about this unique species and their challenges in todays world.
They are so caring and have been able not only to rear orphaned baby bonobos but to also have started a programme to return bonobos to the wild.
My heart is touched by all at this amazing organisation.
What a wonderful Dedicated group of people! Being that Lola ya Bonobo is the only sanctuary for Bonobos is critical to support. I Pray for continued blessings for the Organization, The Bonobos and the understanding from their community of the importance of their work and Conservation. I will continue to support and I also donate through Amazon Smile with every purchase .
Humans have a LOT to learn from bonobos. This efficient and effective nonprofit keeps these lessons coming for future generations.
Wonderful charity. I have donated a couple of times and will continue to do so whenever I am able to! Thank you for all the work you're doing!
This wonderful charity is the only place in the world caring for orphan bonobos and helping them rewind safely!
They are loving and genuinely care for these primates and help to stop there extinction
I have recently discovered the work of Lola ya Bonobo and I am proud to follow and support an organisation whose aim is the preservation and welfare of yet another endangered species.
I am Argentina and I have followed Lola and Bonobo Sanctuary and Friends of Bonobo for a long time. I deeply admire the work they do because being a non-profit organization, every rescue they do is a superhuman achievement. Hopefully more people donate to help Lola ya Bonobos !! Hopefully they win the award because they deserve it.
I always follow their rescues. It melts my heart and fills me with hope and gratitude to see how a poor bonobo orphan arrives, traumatized and starving, clings to the surrogate mother, gets all the help and care, and recovers to eventually return home. This is amazing work. The world needs organizations like this.
The tragic and beautiful recovery stories they share of rehabilitated bonobos are incredibly moving. They do such amazing work caring for orphans, and also for educating the public about the bush meat trade and illegal pet trade. Their work is crucial and inspiring.
Thank you for taking care of these lovely bonobos. What would they do without your kind care! Much appreciated!!
Such an amazing charity. Without their work Bonobos May be extinct as they only survive in the DRC. Help these people save our closest relatives
Lola ya Bonobo is in it for the long haul. Their longtime support of bonobos in the DRC is well known. Not only do they have supporters around the world, but the people of the DRC help them too. If only they had more.
The multi-dimensional development of this program is amazing and essential - Lola ya Bonobo rescues, rehabs and reintroduces Bonobos to the wild AND developed and supports a nearby community with school for the children. Their educational programs for children and adults in the Congo about ecology and Bonobos are exceptional. Most of their employees are Congolese adults - primarily women - who would be otherwise unemployed or greatly underemployed. Their board of directors is active and reaches out personally to keep donations flowing.

So proud to be part of the board of the non-profit Friends of Bonobos. The work we do supports the worlds only sanctuary for orphan bonobos that are orphaned by the illegal bushmeat trade. We provide life time care to the bonobos at the Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary and release as many as we can back into the wild at our protected reserve Ekolo ya Bonobo. We have so much to learn from these beautiful beings we are so lucky to share the planet with and we are committed to make sure future generations can experience the same joy of meeting bonobos. Below is a video of some of the discoveries we have made about bonobos amazing sharing behavior with the help of bonobos at Lola ya Bonobo. Dr. Brian Hare

I am so proud to support Lola ya Bonobo through the work of Friends of Bonobos. This is an organization that has tremendous impact on the ground for bonobos and people. Having worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo at Lola ya Bonobo since 2005 It has been so rewarding to see how effective the sanctuary has been at fighting the illegal bushmeat trade, educating Congolese about this extraordinary animal and releasing bonobos back into the wild.
I love the job they do. It's really important for whole world. I'm supporting another non profit in Kenya, but as soon as things will be better I will support Lola ya Bonobo as well.
I think bonobos may be the most important species to conserve. Lolaya Bonobo does brilliant work. They document everything they do online, you can see it for yourself. Such hard work, they need more funding too. I am being as generous as I can be and will continue to always contribute funds.
I read about bonobos and their evolution of an empathetic, sharing, cooperative and loving instinct in Jeremy Griffith's book, Freedom, and then read Bonobo Handshake by Vanessa Woods, about Lola. This is fantastic work they're doing for a unique and important species found only in this part of the world. I believe they hold the key to how we humans developed our moral conscience.
I can see that the entire staff truly love and care for the Bonobos. They are cared for so well. There is always a display of love going on there.!
I learned about bonobos just five years ago. Have fallen in love with them. They so need our protection.....please help save them!
These guys are doing God’s work. They frequently post videos of their “substitute mamas” nurturing and playing with the bonobos, most of whom have gone through traumatic experiences. It’s very easy to see the work they’re doing is necessary for the continuation of one of our closest cousins’ species. They are also interactive with those who support them and/or follow them on social media.
As a huge fan of Jane Goodall I’ve always been interested in learning about primates. Lolaya Bono always shows such an interesting perspective and always makes me more dedicated in animal conservation as someone pursing environmental studies. Their posts make me thankful for their work, that there are people like this out there!
I so love keeping up with these beautiful animals
The dedication and love shown by their human friends is truly humbling
I started following Lola ya Bonobo a few months ago. I was struck by their dedication, their kind and gentle nature with the animals and their commitment to educating the public.
They appear to be addressing the immediate needs of the Bonobo as well as the preservation of the animal into the future. I admire their work and support their mission.
I have been following Lola ya Bonobo for a few years now, and I they are one of the best organizations ever. Every person I have seen is so incredibly caring and knowledgeable, and they are literally helping to save a precious and unique species!
From the people risking their lives to save the poor babies to the loving mamas caring for them, and everyone else, they are giving the world a tremendous gift, and I am happy to help support them.
I see videos and read articles of all the fantastic work they do and I also donate for the care of these precious animals. I also watched a documentary of how Ashley Judd, a movie star in the U.S. is very much into the Bonobo’s. The sanctuaries and rescue centers are so important for Bonobo’s, chimps and great apes, we need their survival.
Bonobos are a delightful member of the category of Great Apes. I am lucky in the UK to be able to see them at Twycross Zoo but it is important to know that someone is protecting them in the wild and looking after them when things go wrong. There are not many organisations like Lola ya Bonobo and they seem to be devoted to looking after the orphans they rescue. I'd like to get a chance to visit next time I am in Africa.
I'm lucky. I'm one of the privileged few who have actually had the opportunity to visit Lola Ya Bonobo in Kinshasa. What I found there was an incredibly dedicated and passionate staff saving a species of Great Ape, mankind's closest living relative. Central to their entire mission is educating a new generation of DR Congolese of their value -- after all, bonobos are only found in the DRC and for long term survival, it is essential to enlist the youth. To see first hand the care in the nursery of the surrogate mothers, traumatized and rescued from the pet trade, to their careful and thoughtful introduction to makeshift family groups, to their evaluation and selection for a slow release back into the wild is nothing short of miraculous and extraordinary! I can only imagine the heightened difficulty under the covid-19 quarantine, but i have no doubt this organization and staff will get it done! I am proud to support this organization --- they are a credit to the human race! Sincerely JOEL G
My heart goes to the helpless bonobos babies that need our help to survive the brutality of illegal trade in endangered wildlife. They are not pets or food for human consumption. They are very much like us humans -proven by being our closest cousins through DNA. We have much to learn from their kindness to each other and can only do that by supporting the efforts of this organization.
I found out about bonobos when I was 16, and wanted to be a primatologist. I've gone down a different career path, but bonobos have been in my heart ever since. I believe bonobos are nothing short of revolutionary, in terms of research into our evolutionary past. Right now (speaking as an American), I see so much hate without real cause, and chimps being propped up as our history and our destiny for societal ways of being. But with bonobos, we are given a much more complicated picture of great apes & ourselves. I look into a chimp's eyes and see a family member. In bonobos, I also see hope.
As long as I am employed, part-time or salaried, I have vowed to give $500 (minimum) to the Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary each year, and barring that, I request that birthday &/or Christmas gifts be donations to the sanctuary. Their survival and knowledge truly mean the world to me.
I am proud to support Friends of Bonobos/Lola ya Bonobo because the organization is based on love, and the world needs more of that! They do critical work in often challenging circumstances to rescue and protect endangered bonobos in the Congo, and they do it extremely well. And it's the only place in the world like it! I feel like my money is well spent when I give to Friends of Bonobos/Lola ya Bonobo.
This beautiful place is the only place on earth where bonobos are rescued and rehabilitated. The team is dedicated and provides excellent care. I am proud to support them.
This is a serious, ambitious and emphatetic organisation that helps one of our closest relatives to survive and thrive. By supporting this organisation monthly I support my own identity and well-being as well. Because a world with bonobos is a world full of hope. I am grateful for all their work and wonderful resultats!
I was lucky enough to work on the documentary : “Walking with the great apes”, and it became clear that bonobos rescued after being poached and in captivity would have no where to go and no way of surviving without Lola Ya Bonobo, and their dedication to proper care and in some cases, release of individuals that can survive in the wild. Their education program also teaches local Congolese that Bonobos belong in the wild and deserve protection in the forest. This outreach is SO important!
I love Friends of Bonobos/Lola ya Bonobo. I read their social media feeds daily and get so much inspiration from following the day-to-day progress of the orphaned bonobos in the loving hands of such amazing caregivers. The work they are doing to rehabilitate and release these bonobos is so important and so critical to the survival of this species in the wild. I hope they will receive the recognition and rewards they so richly deserve.
They are helping orphaned bonobos that would otherwise die on their own. We need to save these before humankind wipes them out.
Loloya Bonobo is CRITICAL to the wellness and survivorship of Bonobos as a species, which we have so so much to learn from. They do excellent work and could do even better with additional attention and financial support! Please look into this amazing sanctuary and rehabilitation program that saves the lives of bonobos who are mistreated and hunted every day. Bonobos are the future.
I was lucky enough to stay at the sanctuary on a recent visit to Kinshasa. I witnessed first hand their dedication and devotion to the care of these Great Apes. They have my undying respect. Excellent organization and staff!
I have been following Lola ya Bonobo for several years now. They are just an amazing organization in terms of the care that they provide to orphaned and rescued bonobos; and, in terms of their educational outreach locally and globally. Their work is a truly inspirational and I am proud to support their mission.
Absolutely brilliant bunch of women helping some of the most vulnerable babies in the world. Gentle, kind and full of understanding they give their love and time to raise orphans as their own and release these chimpanzees back to the forests. Those also behind the scenes are doing an amazing job setting up and administrating so this can all be accomplished. I cannot recommend this organization enough. Brilliant!
Beautifull mothers with a heart that makes no differences...in their eyes you can see hope for future and in their hands you can see true love
I don't have a personal story but I do so enjoy watching these beautiful creatures being taken care of by such dedicated and joyful people. I've watched so many of these poor animals survive and thrive and I truly think this is God's work. I wish I were younger and healthier. I would roll my sleeves up and get in there with them. They are truly worth recognition for t heir hard work and deserve any and every thing good that comes their way.
I’ve been a donor to this wonderful organization. They do an amazing job and remain steadfast in the face all the destruction that we’re inflicting on our closest cousins. Thank you for all you do and kudos to you for making this world a better place and reminding us that there’s still some good left in this world.
Lola ya Bonobo does truly amazing work for magnificent animals that should be appreciated and loved, just like Lola ya Bonobo itself!
This organization makes such a great work and without asking for much. They take care of the bonobos and keep their followers informed on how the help is distributed, also you can see the evolve of the little bonobos to Adults. It's incredible to see how much Lola has helped the bonobos through the years.
I'm proud to have volunteered with Friends of Bonobos for several years. The passion and dedication of the volunteers, board members, and staff of both FoB and the bonobo sanctuary they support, Lola ya Bonobo, is truly inspiring. Lola is the world's only bonobo sanctuary, and its work of rescuing orphaned young bonobos, nurturing them in a safe environment, and eventually releasing them into their natural habitat, is unique and invaluable.
I've been supporting Friends of Bonobos for years and it is the most effective and efficiently run nonprofit I have ever been connected to. It is powered by an exceptionally dedicated group of staff and volunteers, most of whom have been with the agency for a very long time and who work together extraordinarily well to overcome the countless daunting obstacles inherent in the Congolese context.
For the past 15 years, more than 95 cents on every dollar raised by Friends of Bonobos has served to support the amazing bonobo rescue and conservation work at Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary and Ekolo ya Bonobo reintroduction site in the DRC. It has been a privilege being associated with the organization, seeing growing awareness and interest in bonobos in the US, and the increased and well-deserved recognition for the pioneering work of Ms. Claudine Andre. Ms Andre has successfully managed the difficult transition to the next generation of conservation leaders in Ms. Fanny Minesi. Building on this strong foundation, Ms Minesi is working with local communities and national environmental authorities to consolidate and expand the impact of bonobo reintroductions on biodiversity conservation at Ekolo ya Bonobo, an exciting new development.
Had a great visit with a lot of insight information from the staff and got to understand what great work is done there! It was so great to see especially the young Bonobos just enjoying themselves under the observant eyes of their individual nannies! :) Looked like they were just about to do some nonsense the minute they looked away! So great to see them protected!
They say the most underrepresented great ape and they are the only ones rehabilitate them to go back to the wild!
Great job done there by the whole team: vet, animal attendants, substitute mothers, and each member of the staff.
They love “their” bonobos and know them very well.
My stay at Lola has been a very good moment, full of discoveries, friendships and I’ve been the witness of all the involvement of the staff to rescue and rehabilitate the bonobos.
Thank you to the whole team in the name of the bonobos.
Among the most heroic and highly regarded wildlife conservationists in the world are the people who make a lifetime commitment to rescuing, rehabilitating - and in some cases -releasing, illegally trafficked wild animals. Bonobos are the closest living relatives of humans and they are endangered due to the activities of people. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the world that cares for bonobos rescued from the cruel and illegal international wildlife trade. Very young bonobos that have been torn from their wild families arrive at Lola ya Bonobo - physically and emotionally traumatized. They enter into the loving and expert care of the staff and volunteers at the sanctuary, where they begin their journey to regain their health and resume their lives with other bonobos. I am proud to support the brave and compassionate people who have been called to this important work.
