Mission: The american college health association (acha) serves as the principal leadership organization for advancing the health of college students and campus communities through advocacy, education, and research.
Programs: Education and research: acha hosted a week long annual conference in san francisco in which 2,013 people attended. 175 education programs were offered supplying continuing education credits in ten fields. Acha also offers a number of online continuing education offerings via screen captures from selected sessions at previous annual meetings. During 2016, acha also approved continuing education credit for six educational activities, including five of our regional affiliates and one university. Acha currently offers 25 brochures for young adults which emphasize awareness, risk reduction, and prevention on a wide variety of college health topics. These brochures present information in a nonjudgmental manner, and are written by volunteer acha members.
service and communication: in 2016, more than 112,000 college students at 148 schools were surveyed with the acha national college health assessment. The data collected is used by the schools to allocate resources and plan and evaluate programs. The aggregate data from all schools combined is being used by a number of researchers to learn more about college student's health behaviors.
advocacy and representation: advocacy efforts in 2016 consisted of non-lobbying efforts to interpret regulations released under the affordable care act and educate the acha membership regarding the regulations. In addition, acha monitors proposed legislation regarding protecting students from sexual violence (campus save act and casa).
