Mission: The king county chapter of the washington academy of family physicians provides education, practice management seminars, and networking opportunities for medical students, family physicians, and residents practicing medicine in king county, wa.
Programs: Membership meetings - held three times a year for membership with an education and networking focus, or to prepare chapter delegates and resolutions to take to the state chapter house of delegates meeting. Annual membership meeting - held in may in the seattle area, run by chapter staff and executive board, new officers are elected, and physician and medical student awards are presented during this meeting. Board meetings - executive board meetings held monthly in the seattle area to conduct the business of the component chapter.
resident seminar - an annual event focused on training family medicine residents, to help prepare for medical practice and to support transition to active medical practice. Resident career fair - networking opportunity for resident members to meet with medical practice representatives who may have family medicine physician positions open in the region.
awards & scholarships - provide financial support for family medicine projects, outstanding students/phycians, trainings. Awards - theodore j. Phillips md award for excellence in family medicine, a $500 award given to one outstanding medical school graduate planning a career in family medicine (award annually, established in 1976). The student community service award presented annually to an outstanding uw medical student involved in a community project - $500. The annual physician community service award, to honor a king county family physician that exemplifies service to the community above normal duties as a family physician - a plaque without award money is presented. (all award winners are selected by a designated award selection committee). Financial support for projects were selected by the voting board. Scholarships to attend academy trainings provided to students via a selection committee.
