Mission: To foster collaborative efforts among major medical institutions to advance the field of biomedical research.
Programs: Reduce obesity and diabities ("road") set out to tackle an epidemic by understanding the development, treatment and prevention of type 2 diabities and obesity, two chronic and inter-related diseases, both of which are reaching epidemic proportions among adolescent and minority populations. Road is a 5 year, $5 million study to examine the effects of supervised exercise and health education on type 2 diabities and obesity risk factors among diverse middle school participants.
one of the acivities amdec has engaged in periodically since its inception is providing assistance to its members in obtaining government grants in order to assist them in carrying out their functions with respect to cutting edge medical research. Amedec is continuing its efforts to access $1. 5mm in funds approved by the nys assembly which will be distributed to its member institutions in order to assist in the purchase of capital equipment for the advancement of collaborative medical research.
