Mission: To advocate for safe & sustainable management of the bering sea and aleutian islands crab fisheries.
Programs: Attended council and crab plan team meetings. Organized and led board meetings and created appropriate committees regarding specific topics of interest for the board and membership. Regularly communicated to the board and membership regarding activities. During the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017 the association continued its advocacy efforts in washington, dc, focusing on illegal, underreported and unregulated russian crab, epa incidental vessel discharge, uscg class & loadline requirements and alternative compliance program and msa reauthorization. The association helped to secure a three-year extension on the current moratorium for the epa incidental vessel discharge permit. The association was also instrumental in securing advice & consent from the senate on the agreement on port state measures.
