To be honest, I expected more. The dancers are sub-par. It looks as though they have INTERNS, ie: unpaid dancers. Any professional dancer, who does this for a living and expects to get paid for it, would perform better.
That being said, I appreciate what they are trying to do in the community, and I think it is probably fun for the young kids who come see the performances, but as a long-time lover of ballet and someone who has seen over 200 ballets in various parts of the world, this is one of the worst.
Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre is an organization reaching out for the appreciation of dance throughout the area. A lot of the general population is tired of the typical performance, and is looking for something new. Something they can related to. That is what this company is doing. It is a pleasure every performance.
AABT is a group of hardworking, dedicated artists who enjoy sharing their love of dance with the local community. They spread happiness to everyone in their audiences, especially the school children of their performances. They also expose the community to new, fresh, and interesting choreography, increasing the appreciation of the arts in everyone who sees their work.
Alamo Arts Ballet is a group of extremely talented young dancers. They put forth tons of effort in their free time to share something they are all very passionate about for the local community and surrounding areas.
I am an Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre board member, and company dancer. My experiences with the company will always be a part of my life. We aim to embrace the San Antonio community with as many opportunities to view ballet as not your average art form. We perform for free to the local students in the San Antonio area biannually, as well as have free lecture demonstrations that we travel to their school. We are a highly motivated company who strives to continue to grow in the San Antonio community.
Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre is surrounded with people who are talented, creative and committed to the hard work needed to create ballet performances that are a joy to watch.
Dancers are dedicated and committed to the company. Board and staff are generous with their time and energy. Reaching out to the community of children who may have never seen ballet is very rewarding and important as a contibution to our society.
This Company has superb dancers. The talent that they bring to the community allow people of all ages and walks of life to enjoy the arts. I appreciate the fact that they incorporate children into their program, further broadening their education and views of the arts. WELL DONE.
My daughter has taken ballet for over 10 years and decided to join the Alamo Arts Theater this past year. Not only has she become a more dedicated and skillful ballerina, she has seen its importance in our community. She has participated on various lecture demos at inner city schools and has been able to share her passion and commitment to ballet. The theater's goal seems not only to give the members a chance to perform but to involve the community and together appreciate the importance of the performing arts.
Prior to my personal involvement with Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre, I had the privilege to know the Director, Choreographer, and several of the dancers. Their passion for ballet, unique choreography, and the community is what drew me to them. Their passion is contagious and my children now all want to be dancers when they grow up. We all have a very deep desire to bring San Antonio new and innovated choreography, and to bring it to everyone in the community. From going into schools to give lecture demoes, giving free performances of our Spring and FAll programs to area schools and homeschools, to their unique performances that push the boundaries and stretch what we think of when we think of ballet. I consider it an honor to be involved with such an awesome and passionate group of people.
As an Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre board member, teacher and company dancer, my experiences have essentially encompassed all that AABT stands for. Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre and its students, teachers and staff strive daily to provide the community with the most possible opportunities to view and participate in the performing arts. With each of our biannual performances, local students from schools around the San Antonio area including pubic, private and home schooled students are invited to participate in a free of charge performance at the theatre. AABT provides the underserved schools of San Antonio free of charge lecture demonstrations directly at each participating school, eliminating the need for transportation funding. With each day I am more amazed at what this small company can accomplish and far more delighted to see it grow.
