Mission: To make an invisible injury a visible issue concerning concussions by advocating, raising awareness, educating the public and supporting research about the danger and management of traumatic brain injury.
Programs: Vista(video impact study targeting athletes) is focused on developing an impact database for youth athletes to help improve safety equipment and reduce the likelihood of injury in sports. Special attention to youth football, lacrosse, hockey and soccer are areas of research.
slice is a free community education program providing students in grades 4-12 with the knowledge needed to identify and protect themselves from concussions. The interactive 30 minute program educates students through video, discussion and age appropriate activities. Developed by a national leader in concussion response, the program is also useful for community outreach in addition to schools. Evaluations prior and post presentation show a significant increase in concussion recognition, response, management and prevention. It is an ongoing program with positive measurable results.
major sponsor of alabama's first statewide "cutting edge concussion summit" for athletes, coaches, trainers and medical personnel as well as parents and educators. The one day forum provided concussion experts in sports, medical research and education a platform to share the latest information about concussions with several hundred attendees. Local tv, radio, print and social media were engaged to bring attention to the summit and this critical public health issue. Evaluation surveys showed an overall positive response to the summit with a request for 2015 sponsorship.
