Mission: Progress and sustain exceptional classical music in communities locally and nationally, and to educate the next generation of musicians and music appreciators to ensure our future as a vibrant society of artists and art appreciators.
Programs: In the calendar year 2017, in accordance with its mission of performing, advocating for, and teaching excellence in the musical arts, akropolis performed 39 public recitals of classical chamber music for 7,800 patrons around the united states and in the middle east; delivered 94 community and educational events for 6,300 k-12 students, including 41 collegiate workshops on music performance, composition, business, and entrepreneurship for 1,500 aspiring musicians; released its 3rd album, the space between us; premiered 6 new works; judged the barlow endowment's first ever prize for a new reed quintet work; launched its first detroit contemporary music residency including office concerts, elementary school visits, and pop-up events; and performed at a variety of settings in abu dhabi, including a collaboration with arabic language poets.
