Establish 10-AcreProduction Trials to Evaluate and Demonstrate Short Rotation Woody BiomassManagement and Harvest Options
Key toward establishment of a short rotation woody biomasssupply in the Chequamegon Bay Region is private and public landowner knowledgeand planting of stands of hybrid poplar or other woody biomass crops. The Biomass Crop Assistance Program is apotential funding source to assist landowners in establishing the crops andmanaging them until the first harvest 6-10 years after planting. The BCAP dollars are anticipated to becomeavailable during the winter or spring of 2010 and would provide assistance togrowers that want to plant in spring of 2011. By establishing production trials in 2010, we can get ahead of theexpected wider planting and can generate locally-specific knowledge and providedemonstration and training opportunities for the growers.
