Mission: Acus foundation brings life-changing medical acupuncture to our nation's service members and veterans. We train the doctors that treat the pain.
Programs: Acus flagship training program (nellis afb, nv):the acus flagship program organizes and delivers an intensive 300-hour military medical acupuncture course. Our team trains all qualified health care personnel at the family medicine residency clinic of nellis afb in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of acus acupuncture, which has been developed to treat military-unique pain and stress. In 2017, we graduated our second cohort of physicians. Acus-trained doctors have incorporated acupuncture into their daily clinical work, outcomes include 45% reduction in opioid prescriptions, improved patient symptoms, and cost-savings of $250,000. This flagship program is proof-of-concept for acus acupuncture as a primary treatment modality that definitively improves health outcomes.
acus medical acupuncture research program:acus expanded its clinical research program in 2017. Building on the previous year's utilization study, the research team drafted and submitted three articles for peer-reviewed scientific journals. All were accepted and appeared in publications starting in august 2017. Two more articles are in progress. Results of the acus-funded study demonstrate social perceptions of acupuncture to be overwhelmingly positive. Clinical impacts include prescription reductions (e. G. , opioids, sleep aids, antidepressants), which also double as metrics that track the success of the acus flagship training program. (continued on schedule o)in 2017, the acus research team also began to design a randomized control trial (rct) that will assess the effectiveness of medical acupuncture on sleep disturbances (e. G. , nightmares, nighttime flashbacks, insomnia), among the most significant symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
advanced acupuncture skills program (acus military refresher):acus offers a four-day advanced acupuncture skills training program (also called "acus military refresher") on an annual basis. Military physicians who completed their acupuncture training at nellis afb, with hmi, or the courses our staff staged at army, navy, and special ops clinics between 2007-2013 can enroll. The course tunes up fundamental clinical skills, covers specialized acupuncture protocols to treat military-unique conditions, and introduces newly developed techniques based on the latest clinical research in acupuncture.
