Mission: The actors alliance of san diego is a 510(c)(3) non-profit, membership based service organization dedicated to the advancement, education, and exposure of the theatre artist in san diego and to enhance the good of the community through the medium of theatre. Our goals are to educate and inform theatre professionals in preparation for job opportunities as well as the development and production of their own endeavors; to provide local auditions, training, and performance opportunities for actors; to support and enhance an environment which encourages and enables theatre professionals to live and work in the greater san diego area; and to support other local non-profit organizations through collaboration.
Programs: In 2013-2014 fiscal year actors alliance of san diego had 150 participants in our all city audition with over 75 casting directors, producers, and casting agents in attendance.
7 new plays created and performed in the breaking waves festival as part of our artist development program. This program teamed playwrights, actors, and directors together with the task of creating a producing new local work at the san diego fringe festival. We have been given our own section of the fringe festival to create new plays each year called the breaking waves festival. This program is in collaboration with san diego playwrights and the san diego international fringe festival.
over 450 active member profiles on our website with a total of 475 audition postings and 139 job postings for actors to peruse.
we had a successful three week emerging artist program with 19 young artists ages 11-19 which culminate in the performance of a full length musical, "carrie the musical". The production ran two performances to sold out audiences. This program featured teaching artists, jacob brent and roxane carrasco who are broadway veterans and local music director shane simmons of the coronado school for the arts.
throughout the year we held several audition preparation workshops, scene studies, physical acting workshops, and acting method classes. In total we had over 100 students participate in the workshops and featured teaching artists from los angeles, san diego, chicago, new york city, and the united kingdoms.
