Causes: Philanthropy, Private Independent Foundations
Mission: For 34 years, the AARP Andrus Foundation has supported continued independent living for older persons in practical ways through research on aging, dissemination of results, the translation of research into practice, and training the next generation of researchers in aging. We focus our research in two important areas: living with chronic health conditions, and aging and living environments. Our goal is to enhance the independence of older adults by expanding our understanding of the multidimensional process of "aging." The Foundation, created in 1968 as a 501(c)(3) organization, is named for Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, an outstanding educator who founded AARP.
