Mission: Aaalac international (the association) is a voluntary accrediting organization that enhances the quality of research, teaching, and testing by promoting humane, responsible animal care and use. It provides advice and independent assessments to participating institutions and accredits those that meet or exceed applicable standards.
Programs: The association provides accreditation services to over 995 organizations both in north america (u. S. And canada) and in 44 other countries. Approximately 690 units are in north america, 102 units in europe, 10 units in latin america & caribbean, 11 units in africa & middle east and 185 units in the pacific region. The association conducts triennial site visits of approximately one third of the total units annually or about 332 units per year. The association also promotes its services through exhibits and scholarly presentations. In 2017, the association's outreach efforts comprised of exhibits and presentations involving approximately 75 events conducted globally. These outreach efforts were estimated to reach over 750 laboratory animal research and biomedical research organizations of all types.
