the evelyn goldberg respite center opened at the university of illinois medical center at chicago on october 1, 2004. The center's goal is to empower individuals to actively participate in their health care decision-making by improving understanding of treatment options, and encouraging dialogue between patient and provider, providing assistance in navigating the healthcare system and providing quality of life services for patients going through cancer treatment.
in june 2006, the foundation began buy a mom a mammogram to fund cost-free screening mammograms to medically underserved, uninsured/underinsured women and men in the chicagoland area. A diagnostic component is also in place to ensure women in need of evaluation and follow-up testing will receive such services in a timely fashion. Responding to the basic need of medically underserved women to obtain screening, the foundation partners with various hospitals to provide access to cost-free mammograms in a timely, dignified, and respectful fashion.
the evelyn goldberg mammography center (orginially created in 2004 as a quality of life program) was dedicated in 2012 and is the site for those needing a mammogram at the university of illinois hospital and health sciences system. In 2012, the foundation started keep abreast which is an interactive breast cancer awareness presentation designed specifically for young women with the goal of arising awareness of the importance of breast health and early detection. Additionally, the goal is to have participants serve as cultural and educational conduits in their families and communities. In 2014, the foundation started survive to thrive which is designed specifically for women and men who have been previously diagnosed with breast cancer. The program is tailored to fit the unique needs of survivors who are uninsured or underinsured by offering no cost diagnostic testing.
