Mission: 826dc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with students ages 6-18 in developing their creative and expository writing skills and to working with teachers to inspire their students to write.
Programs: In fy 17, 826dc served 4,203 students through its six core programs, designed to cultivate writing skills and provide publication opportunties for dc students. Young authors book project- over the course of a year, 826dc hosted a series of in-school workshops at the seed school of washington, dc and bruce monroe elementary school, resulting in the professional publication, having to tell your mother is the hardest part. in-school writing and editing projects - these in-school residencies support teachers in developing and implementing writing curricula in alignment with common core standards. Residencies often culminate in a publication, produced in-house via 826dcs book production studio.
field trips- up to four times a week, schools bring their classes to 826dc for two hours of high energy learning. During our most popular field trip, storytelling and bookmaking workshops, over the course of two hours students create, illustrate and publish a story sprung from their collective imagination.
