Hillary and Sabrina never hesitate to share their knowledge of FELV FIV cat health and the needs that go with. They jump in whenever and wherever they can. Nothing comes before the well being of the cats they care for.

I truly love Aslan's Cats and what they stand for: saving immuno-compromise cats. Not only do they care for cats that have chronic illnesses, but they go above and beyond to help every cat in need they can help without thinking of the cost and time. They provide the most beautiful environment for all of their feline residents. I truly believe they should have top praising for how hard they work at accomplishing their mission.

Words alone do not express the gratitude I have for Aslan's cat and the care and love that is given to cats that would normally be killed simply because they are an inconvenience. They have a REAL home...this is not a hospice. If they are sick they immediately go to the vet whether they are friendly or feral...they ALL deserve to live. If you are a cat with Leukemia, AIDS or just feral and unwanted you CANNOT find a better home than at Aslan's Cats.

My partner and I are pleased to review our favorite cat sanctuary, Aslan's Cats, Inc. I think it was in 2011 that I became aware of Aslan's when they experienced the ravages of a hurricane at their original site in Catskill, NY. It was just by chance that their plight came to my attention on a Facebook post (I suppose because of my general interest in all things relating to cats.). I remember they sent out a call for volunteers to help with the clean-up and repairs needed to stay open and while I was physically unable to make the drive from Connecticut to Catskill to help, and because of their enthusiasm to get the sanctuary open again, I immediately wrote out a check to help out in the only way I was able at that time. I have continued to financially support Aslan's every year and they are the major beneficiary of my charitable donations. It was my pleasure to partially fund a small cabin for some of the special needs kitties.
I have visited their former location in Catskill and enjoyed the hospitality of Hilary and all their wonderful kitties. and while I am unable to travel any more, I wish I could visit them at their new location. I've enjoyed seeing photos of the new property and seeing how happy all the cats are.
Again, I am so happy to support and cheer for Aslan's and I will continue to support them in the future.

I recently had the pleasure to visit Aslan Cats in their new location in Millbrook NY. As you know, Aslan Cats is a sanctuary dedicated to lifelong care to FeLV positive cats, along with FIV positive and feral cats. The FIV and feral cats are housed in a beautiful barn setting with plenty of room to roam around and also with access to an outdoor enclosure to enjoy beautiful sunny days. The FeLV cats share the main house with their compassionate caretaker, Hilary. They have free roam of the house and there are many nooks and spaces with cat trees, beds and blankets, along with scratching posts and toys. They also have a large enclosed outdoor space for fresh air and sunshine. Both areas are kept immaculately clean and you can obviously see how much these cats are loved and well-cared for. It’s wonderful that their is a little piece of Narnia where FeLV, FIV and ferals can live out their lives, away from the streets where they were found. There are so few sanctuaries like this one. How do you describe JOY!!?? Go visit ASLANS CATS!! I had communicated with Hilary and Sabrina many times before being able to visit the new home for these normally underprivileged and underserved kitties. Voila!! We secured a date and I drove 2 1/2 hours up to the new location. I knew it was going to be a huge leap and improvement, just from verbal descriptions. But, until you see and EXPERIENCE it for yourself- you can’t imagine! The new property and home for the kitties expands the furry imagination to the extent that ALL AND EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE, WHEN THERE IS BOUNDLESS LOVE, HUMANITY AND PAWSITIVE ENERGY spread throughout!! These two REMARKABLE women spread their Love & Magic through incredibly hard work, long hours and diligence. Whenever they send out a plea for funds- I’m there! I know when they put out the call- they NEED IT!
And, you can be rest ASSURED they put EVERY DIME to great use. This new facility is SUBLIME- it provides SAFETY, WARMTH, INDOORS, and OUT! It is Organized, Immaculate and Welcoming. The idyllic setting sets the stage for visitors and neighbors alike, to EMBRACE THE COMPASSION, GOODWILL AND KINDHEARTEDNESS. They took something Wonderful to an ALL NEW LEVEL! BRAVO

Aslan's Cats is a little piece of heaven on earth for FIV and FelV cats to live out their remaining days -- some have quite a few, as a result of the care and love lavished on them by the Aslan's Cats team, and volunteers who are lucky enough to visit the spectacular location at Glen Oaks Farms. The quality of life afforded the felines at Aslan's also demonstrates that neither FIV nor FelV should be considered a death sentence and that cats affected by these two diseases can have happy, healthy lives. The world of cat rescue is definitely a better place because of Aslan's Cats!!

I LOVE ASLAN'S CATS!! A cat-loving friend of mine told me about this wonderful sanctuary for FeLV+ and FIV+ cats so I started following them on Instagram and thought they were awesome! I didn't realize just how awesome they really were until I had the opportunity to visit them in their new location this past year. I was blown away by the quality of life each and every one of their cats has. The sanctuary is so cozy and warm and the cats there are obviously very happy and well cared for. I was especially thrilled to see where their feral cats live. They have a huge barn with lovely beds and rafters where they can hide out if they're in the mood. It also has a fenced-in outdoor area so they can go back and forth. Every detail was considered when they created this heavenly place for cats, and Hilary and Sabrina are heroes of mine! If you have a soft spot in your heart for cats, you must visit Aslan's Cats!!

I've known Hilary for 7 years and I can never say enough about how wonderful she is and the work that she does. There are and have been so many cats that she puts so much time into taking care of. She does such important work. They need her. She's dedicated her life to them and you can the see the passion she has for her work and the smiles on their little kitty faces. I love visiting Aslan's Cats!

It was sheer luck that we connected with Aslan's Cats. 6 years ago when a local rescue where we volunteered, posted that a cat they had trapped, "Boo Boo" tested positive for Feline Leukemia. They were ill-equipped to provide on going care for "Boo Boo" but were happy to report that he was accepted by Aslan's Cats and would be transferred there. We were intrigued and our research began. What, who and where was Aslan's Cats? What did they do? What we discovered was a quaint and colorfully painted Victorian house, nestled in the Catskills with a large fenced in back yard which housed cats with Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). We felt that the work Aslan's Cats was doing was so important, we wanted to support them in any way we could. Our family and 2 other families in our town have been visiting Aslan's Cats now for the past 6 years at least 3 times a year. Each visit we bring cat food, cat treats and cat toys. The hours we spend there with these special cats that we've grown to love seem to fly by every visit. These cats are rescued from the streets, kill shelters, hoarding situations, just to name a few. Very few people or facilities are willing to take on the medical care required for these cats with Feline Leukemia or FIV. Hilary, the Director has dedicated her time, energy and love to these cats when they otherwise would have met their demise. No cages are needed. A space for them to roam freely, receive love, medical care, a warm bed and nutritious food is what awaits them at Aslan's Cats. This sanctuary is their refuge and safe place. Quite frankly, it is ours too!

We have been fans of Aslans Cats for years! After rescuing a sweet little kitty who showed up at our backdoor years ago, we were so saddened to hear that she had leukemia and could not live with us and our current cat. We went crazy trying to find a place for her to live out her special little life, and finally we found Aslans Cats! Every cat, leukemia or not, should have a life so good! From the cat-centric house, full of cozy beds and cat trees, to the cat-safe, sun-drenched yard with fancy sandbox bathroom, we drove away after dropping off our sweet kitty, with smiles and happy tears! Our cat continues to live the fullest life, with human and kitty best friends alike! Thank God Aslans Cats exists!!!

I have been active in Animal Rescue for almost 20 years. With this type of job, it has brought many happy endings for many homeless cats and dogs but unfortunately it has overwhelmed me with sad and heartbreaking endings. The rescue I work for is North Shore Animal League America. We pull animals from kill shelters in NY and all over the US, and we bring them back to our no Kill facility for a second chance at life. We also admit animals from people who can no longer take care of their pets for varies reasons. Our feline adoption center , Bianca's Furry Friends, is a beautiful state of the art cage free cat rooms. Every cat that we take into our feline facility we test them for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency virus,. Unfortunately we can not take in cats that have Feline Leukemia because of the grave prognosis but because it is contagious to other cats. If a cat tests positive we must reject the cat for admission and this often leads to Euthanasia for the that Cat. I have met many felines that unfortunately tested positive which often leads to distraught and saddened people who are trying to help the feline have a happy life with a new family. Often cats that test positive are not symptomatic and could have a wonderful life for several years, but not many people would want to take in a cat that will eventually die within a year or two. Often we will find special people who will foster a positive cat and give its a great life with the time he/she has left. Over a year ago, I met a young rescuer in the Bronx who was feeding a beautiful pregnant cat that was homeless. The streets in the Bronx could be very harsh and cruel for a stray cat so I immediately told her to bring her to me so we could get her off the streets and into a home. When she arrived we tested her for Feline Leukemia, and unfortunately she tested positive . To return her to the finder was not an option and we could not return her to a harsh and unstable life back on the street. My friend and rescue partner Beth Stern was also involved with her care, since she was going to take her home to foster to have her babies suggested Aslan cats. We both knew of the wonderful home for Feline Leukemia cats , and we thought it would be a great place for her.
Beth named her Dee Dee and we both knew it was best to spay her and abort the babies because they too would be Feluk positive and would not live for very long.

When I brought Dee Dee to Aslans I was warmly greeted by Hillary and was given a tour of this warm loving home. I met the wonderful cats that also had Feline Leukemia and they all looked very happy and healthy and well cared for. I knew this was the best place for Dee Dee. Aslans give cats like Dee Dee a chance to live the rest of their short lives In a loving home . :-)

I’ve been a friend of Aslans cats for a few years. I’m impressed with the professional service while showing love and compassion for all of the cats. They are given good food, a lot of veterinary care (because they have felv or fiv). They have a safely enclosed back yard that they can’t get out of which they LOVE!!! All of the cats have come from horrific circumstances and are now living happy lives filled love with Aslans Cats.

I had the pleasure of visiting Aslan cats last year when I helped a friend rehome a feral cat there. It was an incredible place! The love and care these formerly unwanted cats receive there is amazing. There’s a need for ALL homeless cats to find a safe place to live but those with challenging behaviors and life-threatening illnesses are practically impossible to place. Aslan Cats provides a service for these most vulnerable creatures. Continue the great work!

The NYC rescue group I help run, Artemis Project, is forever grateful to Aslan's Cats. We had an unadoptable kitty, Miguel, we were desperate to place. He tested positive for the viruses that can doom a cat to isolation or worse. Not only did Aslan's accept Miguel, they kept us current as to how he was settling in, his antics and general well-being.

A visit to their location confirms that the cats are well-cared for and loved. Aslan's provides a resource so needed and so scarce. Artemis Project and I personally continue to support them as we would never want them not to be able to continue.

This place and the entire staff are so amazing and inspiring. I have been involved in various animal rescue organizations prior and we happened to come In contact with them when they took in a few cats that no one in several states would. They always say yes when others say no. There is no other place I know that takes in these cats. What they do is so special and I am so excited to have been a supporter for years for their cause. They give these poor animals a place to call home and live out their lives in pure comfort where they are loved all the time. We have also visited this magical place and loved the time with the staff and all the pets and purrs with the cats. We truly enjoyed even though we do miss a few specials ones that have crossed over there is still no other place for these magical animals. I encourage everyone to give a little to make the kitties feel special and hope Aslans stays open forever

I have 3 wonderful cats - 1 from Anjellicle Cats Rescue, and 2 we took in from
the street.

Several years ago we tried to take in another cat from the street- the biological brother
of one we had already taken in. We brought Buddy to the vet, to be fixed, chipped, and get
his vaccines and physical. Unfortunately my vet called to tell me that he tested positive
for Feline Leukemia. Since I had 3 cats in my home that are negative, I couldn't keep him.

I was in a real bind - I couldn't keep him - would not consider euthanasia or putting
him back in the street. Luckily, someone told me about Aslan's Cats. They took Buddy
in, and he was very happy as he could be inside or outside, and have lots of other cats
to play with. He spent several happy years with Aslan's before he passed away.

I will always be grateful for this wonderful organization.

Hilary, at Aslan’s cats, is the very epitome of what a non-profit charity should be. The love, compassion and caring she shows to every adorable feline friend who comes into her care is unmeasurable. Each and every one is her baby.
Her constant efforts to provide a loving home and quality care for the most unadoptables is at a level that all rescues should aspire to achieve.

I have been a supporter of Aslan's for several years. Knowing how difficult it can be to take care of special needs animals, their organization truly goes out of their way to fundamentally serve a group of cats that would otherwise experience a short life of sadness and pain. The group at Aslan's instead make sure that the FLV kitties have a warm, loving home where they can receive the medical care that they so desperately need, the safety that they deserve and the tenderness that every living creature should have. I wholeheartedly recommend Aslan's as an amazing nonprofit and encourage everyone who cares about cats to do so as well. Their devotion and commitment to these underserved felines is commendable!!

Some time ago, a cat adopted me. She had been a stray, and it turned out that she was feline leukemia positive. The vet did not recommend euthanasia (not that I could have considered it), and instead sent me two other FeLV+ cats over the years, because they had nowhere else to go - the local shelters would not take them. I was lucky enough to be able to keep them and take care of them and love them for the years they had. Java AKA Kiddo AKA "The Huntress" was with me for 15 years, my wonderful gorgeous Ellie "The Spawn Of Basement Cat" for only two, and patient Polly "The Cat Who Ate The Elm Tree" for 9 years.

I am so grateful to Aslan's for giving FeLV+ cats somewhere to go. Mine found me, but I hope that they would have found, and that the others do find, a place like Aslan's to go and be happy for whatever time they have.

Since I read about it (while Java was still with me), I have supported and will continue to support Aslan's Cats to the best of my limited ability. One day, I hope to be able to visit Aslan's and see Java's cocksure face again in one of the cats there, and do anything I can to help out, even if it's just "scoopin' some doody". Aslan's Cats not only does an amazing job improving the lives of FeLV cats, they also help the public understand that FeLV is not a death sentence, and these cats deserve a long, happy life. We were honored to award a grant to help them continue their important work.

After moving to Brooklyn, i was introduced to an abandoned, but majestic male cat named Fluffy by a neighbor. Fluffy was in bad shape. He walked feebly, and had copious amounts of discharge coming from his eyes. A posse of feeders, left him living in a delapidated, crumbling building, in freezing temperatures, without vet care. I trapped and rescued him with the promise from one of the feeders, a neighbor, that she would adopt him. After bringing him to my vet, and finding out that Fluffy was in late stage FIV, my neighbor no longer wanted him. I was devestated, as my cats are negative and I could not risk exposing them in good conscience. I had heard that an old friend, Sabrina Boudot Hansen, from my days in theater that I hadn't spoken to in years had started a sanctuary for Luekemia and FIV positive cats. I called her, praying that she would accept him. To my relief, Sabrina called back immediately, stating she would make room for Fluffy. A week later I saw a video of Fluffy's in his new home. Fluffy was in what may best be described as an Austin Power's bachelor pad complete with his own hammock and an electric fireplace warming him. There were changing colored lights and music playing, (Sabrina informed me later this was to keep the cats stimulated when she or the staff were not playing with or cuddling the feline residents!), and I saw Fluffy had already made friends with two other FIV positive felines! I had known Sabrina never did anything without %100 commitment from my days in the conservatory with her. I knew she had been in a Tony nominated play shortly after graduating, but later learned that after moving to Los Angeles and being given the ultimatum from her then husband;"It's me-or the cats! Your cats go!", that Sabrina, on limited funds, rented a separate apartment for her beloved cats. Sabrina presently is in a happy marriage, and dedicates her time to raising funds for her sanctuary. Sabrina keeps a low profile, but is a hands on founder. The cats at Aslan's Cats, are Sabrina's special needs children. Aslan's Cats is a Shangri-La for sickly, and once unwanted cats. It is truly a magical place. I am so happy for Fluffy. He is now happy, warm, safe, loved, and getting the intensive, ongoing medical care he needs. A big thank you to Aslan's Cats!

My Mother passed away in September of this year and left behind a sweet 4 year old cat, who happened to be Feline Leukemia +. Since I knew I was not able to take him in, I started contacting shelters to see if they would take him. Same story all around... No, because he is Feline Leukemia +. I know how much she loved her cat, (Mr. Kitty) and euthanizing was just not an option for me. A friend of mine searched for a place that would take him, and suggested I contact ASLANS Cats. I immediately did a Google search, read their website from top to bottom, and just knew that this was where he belonged. I got in contact with Hilary, who happily accepted Kitty. We made arrangements for me to come up (I live about 3 1/2 hours away) and bring Kitty for his new life. I was given full access to the sanctuary, inside and out. These cats are all free roaming, and they ALL get along. It isn't even just getting along, but they seem to be bonded. There is a bed for every cat, food is always available, and there are enough "bathroom facilities." The cats are very peaceful, and they are in a loving home. They give these cats a chance at life, to be cats, and I think it's wonderful.
I was also informed that I would get picture updates, and email updates, and was offered the opportunity to come up and visit whenever I wanted.
Very impressed with Aslan's Cats, and extremely grateful they are here.

I am a board member of this organization and am proud to say that I am part of a wonderful 501 c 3 that helps cats diagnosed with feline leukemia.

Aslan's Cats provides a service to the community where there are currently few places that properly care for these cats that have very few options in life.

My wife Sabrina and Co-Founder Hilary work tirelessly to provide these cats with a loving home environment where they are well fed, given much love ,and have comprehensive vet care which is vital to the care of the cats at Aslan's.

My first interaction with Aslans Cats was in 2012, after five years of searching for placement for three FELV positive cats, Millie, Little Girl and Whitey Boy, a/k/a Sinatra or Blue Eyes. All originated from Brownsville, Brooklyn, a hell on earth for animals, a high crime area with bullets flying daily. Having been around the block, I am aware there are times when individuals with good intentions actually cause harm to animals when operating a sanctuary, which can quickly turn into a hoarding situation. THIS IS NOT THE CASE AT ASLANS. Arrangements were made for intake into Aslans. The day arrived, was I making the right decision, after all the three lived with me for so long, would they be happy in new surroundings? Sabrina Hansen picked me up at the Poughkeepsie Metro North Station and we proceeded on our way to the sanctuary, where I met Hilary Harris. A quick once over was all it took to know I made the right choice for Millie, Little Girl and especially Whitey Boy, who was a flirt. A tour of the facility removed all fears I had for their well being. Plans were in the works to dress Whitey in a costume for Halloween, inviting the community to meet Aslans residents. Sadly, Whitey Boy would succumb to FELV. Some months later, Angelo would follow and sadly, he too would succumb to FELV, but his final months were lived to the fullest. In August, 2014, two additional cats became the latest residents. I had not named either, leaving that to Aslans. But if I had to name them, it would be Lucky and Luckier. Of course, I wanted desperately to visit with Millie and Little Girl and thought for sure they felt the same about me. After all, we shared five years together. Well, they wanted nothing to do with me and both picked themselves up and exited the yard where they had been sun bathing and entered the sanctuary. Did they remember me? Perhaps and that is why they made a mad dash to exit, thinking there is no way we are leaving Aslans. I am grateful to Sabrina and Hilary for providing a safe haven for FELV cats. As for my crew, I no longer worry about them, they forgot me long ago. They are happy, content and loved. So on a warm summer day, I made the return trip to NYC, with a smile on my face, knowing I made the right choice as the residents of Aslans lounged in their individual beds inside the sanctuary or sun bathed in the yard, all that was missing was lemonade. Dear Readers,

I very rarely write online reviews of organizations, but I had to say a few words about Aslans Cat Rescue.

A few weeks ago, I found myself in a position no one wants to be in. I had taken in a stray cat -- a small , dear female cat -- who, according to a first test result seemed to have come in contact with the FeLuk virus.

I was desperate. I had rescued the cat and now I was being told that she could not co-habitate with my cats and that no rescue would take her. I was advised to put her to sleep. I called every rescue organization in Buffalo, NY, and those who called me back gave me the same advice: euthanize the cat.

I could not do this. And finally, I found Aslans Cat Sanctuary. First, I found their website -- and I was there for hours! I The mission of Aslans is to give cats with the FeLuk virus the best possible lives -- excellent vet care, excellent food, beautiful shelter, and, most of all, love. Here was a place where these poor cats, whose only fault was a hard life, would be safe and protected. Their dedication to the cats other people -- even those in rescue organizations! -- won't help touched me deeply.

Later that night, I worked up the courage to write Sabrina at Aslans and tell her about my little cat. And before even an hour had elapsed, there was a message from her and a number to call. She assured me that my little stray would be welcome at Aslans, Suddenly, a situation that had seemed hopeless was full of hope. After looking at the site, I told the little stray that everything would be ok.

As it turns out, the test had been a false positive -- so we would not need to make the trip to Aslans. But I know that others days will bring others cats to my doorstep -- and on one of those days, a cat who really is FeLuk positive will come to me. Now I know that I can find help for these cats at Aslans. I'll never have to look at a cat and say, "I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do."

I am deeply moved by Sabrina and her volunteers' dedication to and love for these animals. They are doing a hard thing -- but instead of turning away from suffering, they are turning towards it, and stopping it with love and knowledge. Yes, in addition to taking care of the cats, the founders of Aslans are dedicated to educating humans about the FeLuk virus.

Some day, I hope, and I know they do too, a place like Aslans won't need to exist. But in the present, this sanctuary is essential.

Please visit the cats of Aslans. They have so much to teach us.

I am very happy to have an opportunity to express my high respect and admiration for Aslans Cats, an organizations whose mission and work is to provide shelter and care for one of the most unfortunate of all cat populations, those who are found positive for Feline Leukemia. These cats have very, very few good options. Most shelters or owners will have them put to death for fear of contagion or because their medical care can be expensive. Aslans Sanctuary opens its doors and provides a home for these otherwise doomed animals. The cats at Aslans live free roaming in a house and huge, fenced backyard. They are given all the care, love, attention and comfort that all cats deserve. This is no easy task for Aslans. They don't have a huge donor base because they are not able to do adoptions. There funding depends on grants or people who have surrendered a Feline Leukemia cat. It is also a difficult task to love and care for cats who may or may not have a normal lifespan.
Aslans receives calls for help from all over the country. The need is indeed great for this sanctuary.

I have been a volunteer there for about a year and I never stop being amazed and thrilled by the work I see being done by Aslans Cats. I do hope that this organization will be considered for your review.

I was asked to help a friendly cat found in a lot by a friend who feeds there. This cat was sick, and tested positive for feline leukemia at Humane Society NY - my friend and the Humane Society were both suggesting I euthanize him. I did not want to do that, and was in a predicament where I did not know what to do. I could not bring him home to pass the disease to my cat. I called Hilary, who I knew for years from another organization, and she kindly agreed to accept this cat! I was so glad for him. He should be able to live out his life. Not only that, she arranged for a holding place till she could pick him up a few days later. His health deteriorated after the Hum. Soc. visit sadly, but the woman and Hilary treated him with IV fluid, stronger antibiotic, etc. and he is doing much better. Now he can live with other cats in a peaceful setting outside of a cage. I don't know what I would have done without Aslan's Cats. Thank you.
UPDATE: April 2 2013 - Wilson, the cat, got much worse after this review, with 106 fever, and other problems, but Aslans Cats, founded by Sabrina Hansen and Hilary, went above and beyond what most people would do for him. He got great treatment at their veterinarian, and as of today, appears to be stabilized and will go home from hospital to live out his life at the sanctuary. Sabrina gave me updates on him - they don't give up on cats like Wilson, when most people will euthanize them. Wilson purrs in spite of not feeling well; he is a sweet friendly cat.
